LSU vs Ohio State

vs

And so it's set. LSU and Ohio State. Jan 7th. For the right to claim the crystal ball, and become the first team to lay claim to two of them.

Pardon me for one second:

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ahem. That is all.

Evidently Pinnacle Sports has us as 5.5 point favorites. Right now Tradesports has us as 63% likely to win the title.

As Rece just noted, 7 of 9 underdogs have won the title game (the two favorites being 2001 Miami and - I'm almost certain - 1999 Florida State).

So Tiger fans, be prepared to hear the following over the next month:

  1. LSU isn't playing all that well and doesn't deserve to be there over Georgia or Oklahoma or USC.
  2. Ohio State is weak and not all that good of an opponent.
  3. LSU is getting a home game and should roll.
  4. LSU is favored by a touchdown and Ohio State proved last year they aren't up to the task, so LSU had better roll.
  5. Ohio State is 0-8 vs the SEC in bowl games.
  6. LSU has been lucky all year long and it caught up to them against Arkansas. It'll catch up again against Ohio State.
etc. etc. etc.

Unreal
I just...I don't know. LSU is like the anti-Auburn. They've been extremely fortunate in the ways of the BCS and national championship.

I'll I want for Christmas is a 100% healthy Tiger team. I want to see what they can do against Ohio State.

Health
Yes, health is my #1 concern. I think a month should be enough for Dorsey and Beckwith to fully heal, and hopefully Flynn and Keiland as well.

No doubt at all, we've been lucky as hell. Even if we win it it'll feel a little bit tainted, in that we needed all sorts of external factors to align in order for us to make it. I know one thing's for damn sure - if I EVER have to hear another idiot Tiger fan complain about the media not respecting us, my head will explode. We've been given the benefit of the doubt at every single turn this year.

Ohio State
I'm picking the Buckeyes. When everyone is all but certain one team is going to win, the other team usually does in these BCS championship games.

Plus, they'll be more focused than ever after what happened in Glendale last January.

Just a hunch. LSU is certainly more talented a team although I think Ohio State wins the coaching matchup in a landslide.

I don't blame you
Though I will say everyone was certain we'd destroy Notre Dame last year and we did!

But the fact that only 2 favorites have won the BCS Title game gives me plenty of pause. It'll take a herculean effort from Miles to keep the Tigers' egos grounded this month. I'm going to spend the month stumping like hell for how talented and awesome Ohio State is.

"Though I will say everyone was certain we'd destroy Notre Dame last year and we did!"

Well, I was speaking more of championship games...don't know about bowl games in general.

Done Deal?
So you figiure LSU has basically won the National Title already?  OSU is just an over-rated wanna-be team that won't be able to hold its own against LSU.  I am not so sure it will be that easy........

Of course not
Where did I say that?

I think OSU is very talented and very well coached. It'll be a war.

I agree
I was just throw by the big WHOOOOOOOOOO in the original post, I guess.  I am just afraid people will think its a cake walk.

I had a dream
I enter my media room with mahogany paneling, recessed lighting, inset crown molding, thick shag carpeting, plush leather seats and an 85 inch Mitsubishi DLP HDTV monitor.  I look over into the corner and give a nod, at which the scantily clad Jessica Alba begins to pour me a cellar temperature Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.  Flopping into the comfy chair I touch the power button and listen to the whine of the Onkyo TX-SR875 spool up.

As Jessica hands me my drink the monitor flickers to life and the receiver pops into action.  Through the 7.1 surround I hear Keith Jackson saying, "Whoa Nelly!  Folks, we have a whooper of a game for you tonight as the SEC Champion LSU Tigers take on the Big Ten Champs Ohio State Buckeyes for all the marbles."

The camera pans across a scarlet clad Ohio Stadium with 107,000 screaming Buckeye fans as Keith continues, "The conditions for the game are reminiscent of the legendary Snow Bowl with a temperature at kickoff of 22° falling to an expected 13° by the 4th quarter and light flurries growing into heavier squalls."

+++++

That's when I wake up from the dream, remember that Keith Jackson retired, Jessica Alba is nowhere to be found, I have knocked over my PBR and it's LSU that has the home game.  Damn.

Nice imagery
At least you still have that 85 inch Mitsubishi DLP HDTV monitor!

by crepuscular on Dec 4, 2007 5:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well...
Sadly the 85 inch is part of the dream too.

But I do have a 56 inch Mitsu monitor so I'm not complaining.  Though I did have to shovel the sidewalk and driveway last week due to evil frozen precipitation so...  maybe I'll complain a smidgen.

Matchup
Upon discovering that Virginia Tech and LSU finished 1-2 in the computer polls, I now believe that should probably be the matchup. Even though I don't favor rematches, I'm a strong proponent of the computers.

Although you have to admit
In the final poll, the voters did get over the whole "recent loss is bad" garbage. I think they delivered some sanity there, and I'd be saying the same thing if Oklahoma were in ahead of us. If it were USC or Va Tech, for that matter....
