Im actually kind of excited
I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that we are going to be a 3-4 loss team for a little while. There’s nothing wrong with that. Heck, we were a breath away from being a 4 loss team last year. That being said, there are some things we can really look forward to. Some things that might make us a 1-2 loss team in 2-3 seasons from now.
First off. Jordan Jefferson looks like the real deal. Big arm. Good accuracy. Runs really really well. Very confident. Good decision maker. Reminds me of Pat White with a stronger arm. I dont want to say too much too fast, but you’ve got to like what he’s shown so far. At minimum, the guy has the physical tools to be very good.
Jarrett Lee made some very good looking deep passes and intermediate passes before he got hurt, but the voodoo hex, snake bite, whatever continues. Hopefully he can heal quick. If JJ ends up beating him out, Im going to be a little sad for Lee. The guy has given everything he can possibly give to make the tigers win. He’s shown so much heart. The man deserves our full throated support.
Terrance Tolliver is coming on very strong. With him and Lafell, we are going to be good next year. After that, we’ve got DeAngelo Benton and a handful of others in the pipeline that are going to keep our passing attack solid for a good while.
We’ve got a good stable of running backs and a new wave coming in. Once you throw in Russell Sheppard and Jordan Jefferson as running qbs, Crowton is going to be very hard to stop.
Lastly, we’ve got a lot of good lineman for a long time. Not many worries there.
Our run game was horrendous, but I credit their dline with being very good.
The defense, although it gave up some bad plays, had some swagger to them. Chad Jones and Kelvin Sheppard in particular. Alem is freaking good, too bad he’ll be a senior next year.
Its looking like we are going to have some sick talent in the secondary next year if Craig Loston commits. Outside of that. I dont know what to expect. I’d like to get a kick butt D coordinator and start building the scary good defense we used to have. The Co-DC may work out eventually, but I know if a Muschamp caliber guy came in it will work out for sure. So, Im going with door number 2. If we got a great guy in the offseason, we could we back where we should in 2-3 years.
We’ll see.

Not as cheerful
Of course there are good things ahead, but that doesn’t make this less painful. This loss stings me more than the other three. It’s one thing to get beaten down by top-10 teams that are contending for a national championship. It’s quite different—and much worse—to be dominated by a team that is only pretty good. Ole Miss is a pretty good team—not a contender, not a champion. I understand the problems at QB given the fact that we’re playing inexperienced guys. Our offensive line is not inexperienced and they played terribly. Our linebackers are not inexperienced, and they played terribly. Memories of our recent championships and great games can soothe me, but there is no avoiding the disappointment of a team that played so poorly.

Not cheerful, but confident.
Have to agree with Nepomo. While there have been disappointments galore this season, I still have to believe that we are rebuilding and restocking this year. The fact that we are playing a “fourth string quarterback” allows the opponents defensive unit to pin their ears back and really stuff the ground game. The ebb and flow of the game follows. If the Offense is being shut down, the defense also feels the impact both in time on the field and psychologically.
Coaching problems? I don’t think so. While I do not necessarily agree with the dual DC’s, I think Mles will address that in the off season. Crowton has been a frequesnt target of mine since I think he should tailor the game to play to the strengths of the quarterback. However,in our current situation, this is almost unbelievably difficult.
In looking at other boards, there are calls for Miles’ head and other emotional rhetoric. I can’t bring myself to legitamize such comments by responding. Oce we take the emotion out and realistically look at where we are and where we are going, I can sleep tonight. The future of the Tigers is strong.

I don't blame you Richard. . .
I find it hard to have anything worthwhile to say after that game last night, as well.
After cooling off, I’ve had some time to rationally think about LSU’s situation right now. I think from here on out, they need to see what they can develop for the 2009 season. That being said, Miles’ first order of business this off-season needs to be the Co-DC position. I simply has not worked. He needs to make a change that will instill some confidence in a defense that is looking horrid. When the season highlights of our opponents are shown on national broadcasts that include mostly their games with LSU, it is time to do something about it. The opposing team members having career games against us needs to stop.
I’ll still watch the remaining games and cheer the Tigers on, but I’ll be watching to see what we have to look forward to in 2009 at the same time.

yeah, man......geaux tigers
wow, just who were the 3 or 4 losses supposed to be against?
most knowlegeable fans were guessing at 4 losses. remember the perrilloux thing?
most fans knew the cost of integrity was gonna be a few losses. most fans knew hatch and lee were the only backups.
oh yeah, didn’t snead jump to ol miss from tx?
maybe the coaching staff put too much faith in the depth of the team, but the qb is still the keystone. and the coaching staff made the right decision to drop perrilloux.
lsu and miles made 3 rookie qb’s work as well as they could.
every qb in contention for bcs this year had terrible first years. even tebow won heisman w/ 4 losses. and college is not like the pros where a qb is usually the franchise guy.
lsu did good.
also, thank you to the above posters for showing the positive.
there was a guy (w/ his 10yr old daughter) sitting behind me who booed jarrett. I asked him if anyone had ever booed his daughter. (his booing stopped.)

During the middle of the second quarter, I had to go watch a pee wee “super bowl” game involving one of my wife’s student’s. In trying to make chicken salad out of chicken @#$W, I tried to think of it as what scouting may be like… not so much.
Anyway, my point in saying that is that I had to watch the game via Tivo. Its not the same experience as live. Not even close. You’re just not as emotionally involved as when its live. So, Im a little more detached from the frustration of having watched the tigers lose to the rebels.
The way I look at it is the tigers lost to three teams we probably or definitely should have gotten beat by (Georgia, Florida, and Bama) and one team they probably should have beaten. Thats actually pretty normal. LSU is not a top tier team this year. Period. LSU is not going to be much better next year. It will probably be the season after next, if we make the right changes now, before we really start seeing the tigers approaching full strength.
There is nothing exciting about losing, but there is something exciting about seeing star potential in some younger players. Just like when Michael Clayton was here, losing in the Cotton Bowl and then winning in the Sugar.
