Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

LSU vs Georgia Tech

LSU has never been known to be able to defend against the option offense too well. Back in the days of Bear Bryant and Alabama,  LSU never did stop that offense.  I just don't think it is in the DNA of LSU to be good at stopping the option, but it doesn't seem many others this year have done too well either.  Of course, it has been a long time since LSU or any other college team has seen this offense very much as I don't think this offense has been used since before these current LSU players were born.  If the Tigers are to have success, it will be because they are a very physical and fast defense, but mental mistakes will kill you if you lose focus.  I expect LSU will be able to move the ball on Ga Tech, but I am concerned about their ability to stop Ga Tech consistently. So, I feel this game will be fairly high scoring, much like the Ga Tech and UGA game.  I just hope the LSU Tigers can find a way to win this game.

Go Tigers

I hope LSU comes away with the win. You will meet a new breed of insecure fan in the bugs. Their self esteem and penis envy of The University of Georgia makes Auburn’s obsession with Alabama seem the epitome of emotional stability.

Penis envy? Yeah right.

So still smarting from that 2nd half ass whupping we put on you huh? Better get used to it.

SEC vs ACC

Jeffcodawg:

I was surprised the Jackets could beat UGA, but that offense they run is so different and it was late in the season. We Tiger Fans are still in shock about the way LSU’s defense gave up so many points this year. Les Miles’s heine has been cooking over the internet and fans are demanding he make big time changes. We are hearing today that John Chavis former UT DC has accepted the LSU job as the new DC. UT has never seemed to impress me as a dominating defense, but they did seem to be solid for the most part.
We need somebody that is for sure, so maybe he can return us to the old attacking defense. Lord knows LSU will pay money as Chavis is coming out great as he is going from being let go at $ 340,000.. per year to $ 500,000.00 per year at LSU. Looks like a nice deal for him.

Who do yo guys think are our impact players?

Who do you think is our biggest offensive weapon tonight? I think Dickson gets a lot of catches. I would say that our WR’s will have good nights, but I am not sure if we are going to be throwing the ball around a ton.

I speculate that our offensive game plan is going to be to control the clock w/ our running game and try to shorten the game. What do you guys think?

To be honest, I don’t know what is going to happen. However, GT’s style already shortens the game enough. If both teams come out and run the ball the whole game then it will be a pretty short game. I think we keep it 50/50.

It just feels wierd that we have spent all of this time teaching our team to defend the triple option, while other schools normally get a week. Seems like we should have it down pretty good. I think we have better athletes, so why do I still feel like we could lose? I don’t know how easy it is to change up the plays in a triple option offense. I am under the impression that it is pretty set in stone how it runs. Do you think they are going to go with some things different offensively, or do you think they will keep it the same? If they keep it the same I feel pretty good about the game.

You will definitely see some new twists

Supposedly Paul Johnson still has plenty in his playbook that he hasn’t used yet because the system is new at GT. He has some run-n-shoot plays I bet he runs. The problem is that Tech has only one WR you need to worry about, #8 Demarious Thomas. He’s a big, strong WR who has had some good games, most notably the Clemson game where he had all 8 catches that Tech logged that game.

I bet Tech comes out throwing like they did against Miami to throw the defense off. Then they will revert back to the triple option.

LSU vs Ga. Tech

Now that we know how easily the LSU Tigers handled Ga Tech, we can say we saw the real LSU team play for once this year. Obviously, LSU was much more talented so I guess all of us LSU fans were wondering where that team (or the coaches) was during the year. Of course LSU spent most of the year trying get Jarrett Lee to grow up, but he never did and consequently we wasted so much time by not bringing in Jordan Jefferson. I am sorry for Lee as a person, but that guy sure hurt that team this year.

Jefferson impressed me with his poise and the many weapons he has. I think he and Russell Shepard will give LSU’s wildcat formation an Arkansas like combination when Mcfarlen and Jones were there. I guess the 3 weeks LSU had to prepare for Ga Tech was a major key to being able to play the Triple Option so well. Also, LSU will have Chris Garrett , a big pocket passer available to compete as a passer. I expect Sheppard to really step up and be a sensation.

My Article

This is an article that I wrote about the LSU-Georgia Tech game on new years day.

BACK TO REALITY

  RECAP

Last night LSU and Georgia Tech faced off in the Chick-fil-A bowl. Georgia Tech were heavy favorites with 75% of the nation voting them winners on New Years Eve. LSU received the ball to start the game; well not really. Georgia Tech kicked it out of bounds to avoid giving it to speedster Trinton Holiday. LSU started out at the 45 yard line, and exploded. Six plays later, halfback Charles Scott was celebrating in the end-zone. Georgia Tech answered back by scoring a 24 yard field goal to cut the lead to four. The second quarter started out with the same score, but not for long. LSU out-scored Georgia Tech 28-0 in the second quarter, leading 35-3 at the half. After that, it wasn’t that exciting. LSU’s defense held Georgia Tech’s offense to no touchdowns on the night, and LSU’s offense only scored one field goal the entire second half.

REALITY

Their is a fine line that separates the SEC from the ACC. That was it. LSU’s offense was killer all day, something that was struggling against most SEC defenses, but when it came to Georgia Tech, it looked like they were playing a high-school team. Something else that is TOTALLY overlooked is that while LSU’s defense may not match up to last years caliber, they still are ranked 17th in the NCAA in rush defense. Since Georgia Tech can’t pass to save their life, it was an easy game for the LSU defense. So much for Georgia Tech’s EXPLOSIVE offense. They had ME believing that it was going to be a close game, but once again, LSU prevails. LSU had fun out their, and it showed. Calling a fake punt in the fourth quarter that went for 21 yards had Georgia Tech fans BOOING. BOO YOUR OWN TEAM!!! You can’t boo the opposing team for beating the snot out of yours. BOO YOUR OWN TEAM!!! They’re the players that didn’t show up to play. Matter of fact, they just showed up to eat!!! I read an article a couple of days before the game saying how Georgia Tech’s football team beat LSU’s football team in an EATING contest. What? How does eating have to do with football? I guess Georgia Tech was just in it for the meat. LSU was in it for the WIN.

You can gloat if you want to,

but count me out. Try to remember how we felt after getting drubbed by Florida, Georgia, and yes, Ole Miss. After the season we had, let’s just be grateful for the way we finished, and try to show some class. Everyone who saw (or read about) the game pretty much knows what happened.

Gotta agree

My brother lives in Tallahassee and is a Tiger fan (so long as they’re not playing FSU) and he sent me an e-mail after the fake punt expressing his disappointment. The reason I mention this is because I believe this was a popular sentiment…… showing off doesn’t and embarassing opponents deliberately is not what inspires people; it does alienate people, however….. Fan base will always support you but everyone else will hate you…. Look at Spurrier.

Hot Boudin, Cold Cous Cous, Comon Tigers Poosh Poosh Poosh!
