The LSU-Auburn Friday YouTube Collection

This sounds like a good idea and I'm going to try to do it every time we play a team with which we have a storied history.  Here's the LSU-Auburn Friday YouTube Collection:

"Flynn is back to throw! WHOOOAAAAA!":

The Chop Block

RefGate 2006:

'

RefGate 2004:  I swear this penalty was never once called in college football before this play, and has never been called since.

The Lyn Amedee Game:

And Lastly, The Earthquake Game:

*When I typed this up, I did not realize that Bayou Bengal Blog had a very similar post up.  Still, I'm not taking this one down.  Credit where credit's due, but its not like either one of us invented posting YouTubes.

i hope you're not serious

about refgate ’04. that has been called plenty of other times both before and after that game.

document

If you can document one other example of a player called for a penalty for jumping and landing on his own teammate, I will award you 10,000 ATVS bucks.*

*Not redeemable at any outlet.

wow...that's very "lawyery" of you

to ask me to document it. something you know i can’t do without a ridiculous amount of legwork (if at all)…which i’m not willing to do. however i have seen it with my own two eyes. take it or leave it.

besides that, you don’t even seem to think it was called incorrectly so much as you seem upset that its not called more often?? so if you saw it called every couple saturday’s you’d be ok with this game/call??

by gerry dorsey on Sep 19, 2008 4:43 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What upsets me...

is that it has never been a penalty before or after that situation. If it was “called correctly”, it was called correctly in the sense that the BYU-Washington St. thing was called correctly. It was called within the letter of the rule, but in a grossly unfair way when you take into account the players’ expectations of what is allowable based on how things have been called in the past (and in the future for tha tmatter).

It’s like if, for one game, baseball umpires actually started calling balls and strikes based on the rulebook. Or if it was done only for one inning in a big game. It would be chaos, and it would be grossly unfair to the team that was hurt by it.

And if you don’t want your $10,000 ATVS bucks, that’s your business :)

the problem is

it is/was a stupid rule. i’m just of the school of thought that refs don’t cost teams games. without remembering every detail of that game, i’m sure your boys had more than one opportunity to score more than 9 damn points. maybe be mad about that…but then i guess that’s not a very interesting blog post or you tube.

Also, don’t forget that that rule was new for the 2004 season, and had been voted on by the rules committee in the previous offseason. Who was on that committee? None other than then-LSU coach Nick Saban.

To me, the 2006 call is much more questionable. However, it isn’t certain that the outcome would have been different. LSU still would have had to score a TD from the 2 or so yard line, a very doable task, but anything but guaranteed.

Every time I see video of the chop block it boils my blood. That was a classless move, and Tubby should have removed him from the game right then. I’m not going to try and argue with you on that one. It was an embarrassing moment for Auburn.

Quoting from your link:

“Until the penalty flag appeared. Personal foul on LSU. Senior cornerback Ronnie Prude jumped across the line of scrimmage and landed on an Auburn player which is a foul and a new rule, albeit a confusing one.”

Quoting from Pittman’s offer:

“If you can document one other example of a player called for a penalty for jumping and landing on his own teammate, I will award you 10,000 ATVS bucks.”

See the difference between the two? The complaint is that Prude was flagged for something that has not, nor even been flagged since. The foul was committed against his own team. And I don’t know of any other time that has been a flag.

Thanks for getting our back...

…Most interesting Bama fan in the world guy…

I know you did it for Saban, but thanks, anyway…

Way to get yourselves pumped up...

…by showing instances of supposed victimhood. Except the Interception Game. Jamie Howard definitely was victimized. Yup, that one’s correct…

Wasn't trying to post victimhood

just a cross-section of the history. I would have liked to have posted the 1996 game, but there was no YouTube of it that I could find.

I've seen it somewhere...

Let me try looking for it. I think we should try to name all these games. We call ’94 The Interception Game and ’96 The Barn-Burner (Literal). Maybe we should seek some standardization. Winner gets naming rights?

Certainly you can come up with something better for last year’s game than Chop Block?

If anyone will sign on, I’ll nominate 2005 Jon Vaughn, my grandmother kicks better than that…

by War Eagle Atlanta on Sep 19, 2008 4:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Some suggestions

1994: The Interception Game
1995: The Bring Back the Magic Game
1996: The Barn-Burner
1997: Craig vs. Collins
1999: The Cigar Game
2001: The Playoff Game
2004: The 2 PAT Game
2005: Vaughn Misses. Again. And Again. And Again. And Again.
2006: The Tip
2007: The Lesticles Game

Tried to be fairly neutral, but 1995 will be non-negotiable. Auburn can keep calling it the Whistle Game.

Craig v. Collins

Good one! I remember that game distinctly. Rusty Williams put it in the end zone to put it away in BR…

Whatever happened to old Cecil the Diesel, anyway? Didn’t he get like Perrillouxitis back before there was such a thing…?

Yes, even we call 1999 the Cigar game…

by War Eagle Atlanta on Sep 19, 2008 10:48 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Collins essentially had a one-game career. And it was awesome. Craig was almost unstoppable in that game. Great game in retrospect. Wonderful individual performances.

As for Cecil the Diesel:

“In December 16, 1999, Collins committed burglary in an apartment complex. He admits he broke into the home of a married woman that he knew from the gym, but said he only wanted to watch her sleep and maybe cuddle. After conviction on the charge, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. His current release date is in 2014. Upon release, he may face incarceration in Louisiana due to his prior conduct there.”

Well past the Land of Perrilloux.

Him, Vick and Clarett

Are starting up the REAL verison of the Longest Yard. I hear OJ is lined up to play Caretaker!

The dude thought he was the Toothfairy and that climbing into windows was ok.

Not even close to RP as far as actions go, but both of them got about as much sense as…as….well they are pretty damn stupid!

This is the 20th Anniversy

of the Earthquake game. And it all started there from that point on it seems every Aubarn game has to have a name attached to it.
