Gonna be a long week...my thoughts on Bama game

Concerns for LSU

  • Saban's combo coverages...CNS likes to use coverages with great mix of zone/man.  These are more complex and take a while for Defs to learn. Well, Bama's def has learned them well.  LSU has a young and realtively inexperienced QB, while he possess a great deal of talent is still only 19 yrs old.  These coverages are tough for young QBs to read, not to mention that CNS does a tremendous job of disguising his coverages.
  • Hands on Hips LSU Def...I feel that LSU def matches up very well with the Bama off, BUT if the LSU off struggles early and the TIDE continue to pound out long drives this Def will be exhausted by the 4th.  This is my biggest concern. Quick three-n-outs by LSU's off and a Bama time consuming, flat out exhausting drives.
  •  Conservative Off...LSU has only recently begin to open up the off. I have a feeling that this could be a game where Miles decides to regress the off (^^cough^^ Florida ^^cough^^) to minimize mistakes by playing a very vanilla off. These plays right into the strengths of a nasty Bama def and also leads to Hands on Hips LSU Def...yikes.

Opportunities for LSU

  • Stretch the field...I wholly believe that when LSU spreads the off out that it can become very explosive.  (Tolliver/Lafell at WR, Scott/Keiland at RB, Holliday/Shepard Utility) These are some serious weapons to have on offense, and when JJ can push the ball vertically and horizontally with these guys, points can come quickly.
  • The learning curve...LSU looked flat out bad on both sides of the ball early this year.  This needs to be factored in with a completely new Def system and a VERY young QB.  It seems that both sides of the ball are starting to really get a grasp of their assignments and potential. We all know they have the talent, but how long would it take for everything to come together...its almost there.
  • Patrick Peterson...If there is ONE player who can man up with Julio, it's this guy. You know it..I know it...we both can't wait for this battle.  If LSU can take away Jones then the focus really can be on stopping the run.

Should be a great game, unfortunately CBS is covering the game, so the over/under on tebow's name will be set at 435. Holliday as the fastest man, 265. Terrance Cody being very large and capable of blocking FGs, 5,000.

Agreed on the CBS coverage.

You forgot the over/under on Chad Jones being a pitcher…and having dreads of doom (250).

As for the game itself, each week I get more excited about our defense. Our back seven has got to be one of the best in the country. This game could come down to whose defense scores the most points.

My fear, like yours, is that Les is of the same mind and handcuffs the offense to prevent them from losing the game.

Stevan Ridley

I guess we won’t be seeing him much against the Tide.
He looked like he really has some moves and great vision.

I agree with you on most points except...

Virginia Tech did a great job keeping Julio covered and we ended up throwing to Mike McCoy, Marquis Maze, Darius Hanks, (TE) Colin Peek, etc. We also threw some quick passes to Ingram and Upchurch. I think it will help us tremendously for Julio to have a big day, but I don’t think it is a make or break if he doesn’t have an all-star game (unlike 2008 where he and Glen Coffee were our entire offense).

Julio

He’s a great receiver, but he’s not the guy I’m worried about. We can put Peterson on Julio and they will probably battle to a draw like AJ Green. He’ll get a few catches but Peterson should keep him from having a huge day.

The guy that LSU absolutely must stop is Ingram. I’ll be staying up nights worrying about him. Our linebackers have made huge strides this season, but they absolutely must tackle Ingram on first contact or at least hold him up until help arrives. We cannot afford Ingram running free in the secondary.

Ingram’s not the whole offense either, but he’s definitely the scariest part of it.

+1000

If we can get even reasonable pressure on McElroy, I don’t see the passing game being a huge threat. Bama lives on the running game. If we can’t contain Ingram, it’ll be a long day. The D-Line has to have their game of the season on Saturday. Hell, both lines need to.

Going into this game...

As a fan of the Tide, LSU has been my biggest worry as far as regular season games go. For one, LSU hates Nick Saban the way I hate Tennessee (see my sig for more). For two… actually, the first one pretty well covered it. Hate makes even bad teams good, and LSU is anything but a bad team. Couple this with the knowledge this one game determines the SEC West crown… if I were Alabama’s leadership, I would not spend one cent on pyrotechnics, because there should be more fireworks than any ten men could want on the football field.

schexyoung. is right but my view on the concerns is due to this being a big game i know being a football player that in the 4th quarter as long as u have that fire still buring u bein tired wont effect your play and in this game which will pretty much decide how LSU’s season will end they will come out with that fire it takes to win plus like u said we have so many weapons we will give bama a run for there money wat makes it good is we have weapons on both side like on offense we have trindon, russell and lafell plus an upcoming reciever in reuben randall we also have a lineman that can match up with terrence cody in ceron black(gone be an interesting fight in the trenches) and on the defensive side of the ball u have patrick peterson, harry coleman, and chad jones if anyone’s going to take away bamas juio jones its these back 7 even if they get julio on a linebacker the backer that’ll be covering him will be harry coleman who’s a converted safety. from wat ive seen everything ova the middle is going to get lit up by chad jones. the big thing i think will be ingram he’s an extremely gifted back but i have confidence in our backers to hit him in the mouth and wrap up. this game is shaping up to be a knock down drag out fight till the end and its gonna remind us how football is suppose to be played and i cant wait till saturday!!!

Maybe you could use a few more cliches

And spell Rueben Randle’s name right
And realize that Ciron Black plays left tackle, a position that generally doesn’t line up against the nose guard. Ok, actually it never does.
Besides that you’re fine.

Actually, I deliberately spell his name wrong..

the database that does automatic links has him named “Reuben Randle”. when I use that spelling, the links come out right. When I use the correct spelling, no link is made.
