State of the Blog

It's been a while since we've had a State of the Blog post, and I know that during the middle of the football season is a poor time to do it, but some things have come up that make it necessary.  The big announcement is that I am taking a step back from the blog, starting in the very near future.

I'm not leaving for good, but I will not be the person making sure that the readers get new content all the time.  After almost 3 years of running a blog as a hobby, I am a little burned out on the day-to-day.  I love following football, but running a blog is kind of like dating a nymphomaniac.  It's really fun... for a while.  Then it's just work.

Some life changes are also contributing to this decision.  Little Miss ATVS is getting a little bit older, and it's getting harder and harder to run this blog without it taking time away from her.  Also, as some of you know, my wife and I are buying a house and are moving.  The place we are moving to, as I learned earlier this week, will not have high speed internet access, so the decision I had been considering for a while became more urgent.

Poseur, Billy, Jrlz, and I will still be posting until further notice.  The other three will probably be posting at the same frequency they're posting now.  I have taken some steps to make sure that someone of skill and ability will take over the day-to-day duties of running the blog, and he will add a fresh new direction as well.  We aren't quite ready to make an announcement as to what that's all about because some loose ends are remaining to be tied.  Hopefully we'll have something for you very soon.

I'll still be occupying this space for the time being, however.  And thanks to everyone who has helped make this a successful blog and has helped make this a lot of fun, which includes but is not limited to you the reader.

Bummer

Richard,
I am sorry to hear this but I understand your situation having seven kids myself. I hope that from time to time you will still continue to share your thoughts and opinions. I have enjoyed your comments the last several years.
My very best to you and your family.

Best Wishes

As someone who has only been a fan here starting this year I’m sorry to see that you are scaling back your contributions. Your regular commentary will be missed but that will make those occasions when you do contribute more special. I’ve only been a fan for a year because I didn’t know what a blog was until my 32 year old daughter clued me in. I even started a blog of my own, last published August 23, 2009. No clue how you managed to keep it up every day. Hats off to you sir…

Everything Changes...

Richard,
Thank you so very much for all of your articles over the last several years. ATVS is an intelligent, rational (sometimes hilarious, too) bright spot in the LSU blog world.
Your efforts have been greatly appreciated!
Knowing you will be posting from time to time will be something to look forward to.
Thanks for all of your hard work on ATVS and best wishes for happy times in your new home with Little Miss ATVS,

Richard

I have been reading your blog on and off for a couple of years though I have only been commenting this year and I’ll miss you.

I don’t always agree with you but you always make a strong case for your opinion but are willing to listen to other views – I respect that.

Thanks for the good work, I hope your successor keeps the blog alive and well as it is a good source to judge the pulse of tiger Nation!

Appreciat

Richard,

Just want to chime in and say that this is the best LSU blog out there. You and Posuer both have a great perspective on how to approach LSU football fandom in my opinion. I always appreciate your thought out commentary and hope you’ll let us know your thoughts around any upcoming big issues w/ the program.

Good luck with your move. Thanks again for your efforts.

Appreciate your Effort *

Seems I just couldn’t wait to get to the body of my post w/ that title.

Thanks

This blog discusses LSU sports at a level other message boards and blogs simply don’t touch so thanks for that. Looking forward, jrlz’ basketball posts have been great. With him, Poseur, Billy, and hopefully readers using the fanpost function more often, I think this site will still top every other one around. Enjoy your time off.

Thanks.

Thanks for all your hard work. I join everyone else here is saying you will be missed, and I’ve appreciated your commentary. Best wishes.

You suck, Richard

Just kidding. I don’t know how you do it every day. I post about three times a week and it’s hard to keep up THAT pace. Thanks for creating this little corner of the LSU blogosphere, and letting me be a part of it.

Guess it’s time for the rest of us to start pulling our weight around here.

Step up to the mike Poseur

It’s time you increase your content sir. (Just kidding)

I enjoy your opinions as well as the rest of the guys who post here.
Don’t drop the ball fella’s. This sight is too good to let it slip in quality.

Reading your posts while drinking coffee is my favorite part of my morning routine. Going to miss it!

Thanks and best wishes, Richard

This place is my first stop every morning after checking email. I’ve really enjoyed your posts and analyses. You always seem to be the voice of reason whether we’ve just had a great win or a crushing defeat.

Now tell us more about dating a nymphomaniac.

best of luck with everything

as i mentioned recently in another post, i’ve been reading you since the geaux tuscaloosa days.

as i’m sure i’ve mentioned on here before at some point, i’m a bama fan who was born and raised in tiger country, and still maintains close ties to the area via friends and family. my relationship with lsu football has always been a “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” kind of thing. with that being said, this is the only lsu site i can stomach (back handed compliment??), and provides a much higher level of info and analysis than anyone else. hopefully the site maintains the quality without its “manager.”

As everyone else has already said, you’ll be missed. Greatly. Good luck in all of your future endeavors!

i completely understand why this must occur...

i echo the sentiments of all those above in lamenting it’s coming to pass.

i’m pretty sure things will continue apace for the remainder of the season but i implore you to keep up the quality off-season effort i’ve come to expect from ATVS. nobody covers recruiting better and never has it been a more critical issue for both your program and the rest of the SEC west.

Thanks for the great work. You’ve definitely contributed to this place being where I go to get my Tiger fix.

Guys, thanks very much for all the props and good wishes..

but I’m not disappearing. I’m just not going to hang around as much. I’ll still be here and will still be writing. I honestly think that both my writing and the blog as a whole will improve by this decision, as my own writing will be more inspired and well-thought-out for not having to crank something out every day.

Richard,

I agree with the rest of the posters on here. I’ll miss your thoughts and strapulations(sic) on most things LSU. I know you’ll be posting from time to time, but know that I’ve appreciated your writing. I have a blog that I haven’t updated in so long, that I know that it had to be difficult for you. Gawd, I hate moving and painting. Prayers sent on that front.

BTW, where the hell are you moving that does not have high speed internet? Crap, I live in Geismar and I even have fiber optic lines.
