Les Miles weekly press conference 11-23-09
Skip ahead to the 14 minute mark.
It's painful but ole miss must be revisited just once again for coaches comments.
Les takes the blame for everything: the second 2 point attempt, playcalling on the last drive, squandering seconds before calling the time out, and not having a plan for what to do if the last pass doesn't make it all the way to the end zone.
As for the "clock it," he says he was signaling that Tolliver was down because the ole miss defender came up with the ball. He also says that JJ was not in error, and that if he saw anyone call for a spike then he should spike it.
The only real news from the press conference is that Dominique Allen may take snaps as a back on Saturday.
More columns of outrage in the local papers today, but it's mostly just a re-hash of sunday's stuff. One item of note is that the Memphis Commercial-Appeal reports that asst. coach Larry Porter is now one of 2 finalists for the HC spot there.
The Men's team is in New York preparing for the final rounds of the NIT Tipoff tourney starting wed. Long time LSU SID Kent Lowe is keeping a travel blog for the team. Also the 2010 recruiting class was ranked #11 nationally by ESPN and The Rev has a quick review of the signees.
There are no Tiger teams in action tonight. Les Miles' radio show at Walk On's has been moved up to tonight at 7 due to the holiday, but it's probably not worth hearing this week. Better to catch Dandy Don's play-by-play on the flipside.

I wish Porter the best
but if he leaves for Memphis that’s going to be a tough recruiting role to fill. He was the recruiter for Charles Scott, Keiland Williams, Chad Jones, Terence Toliver, Jordan Jefferson, DeAngelo Peterson, Craig Loston, Russell Shepard, and Justin Maclin in this class. He and DJ McCarthy have been the top two recruiters for us. It will be tough replacing him.
CHAD JONES! WOOOO!!!!
Not to mention
if Crowton is no longer with us after the season, the loss of Porter becomes even more significant.
based on what?
oddly, high school kids playing football seem to be less effected by losses, good or bad – more grounded the rest of us?
GEAUX TIGERS!!!
Yeah I don't understand why you think this.
Gregatron is not responsible for any of the crap he just wrote.
St. Louis vegetarian blog
On what are you basing that we are losing anybody?
There are always people that haven’t made up their mind until signing day, etc…
For instance last year we ‘lost’ Janzen Jackson and Nu’Keese Richardson at the last minute – how’d that work out.
Our class doesn’t need to be salvaged – our fandom does.
Even if we don’t like Miles or hate him or think he is a boob or whatever, the damage that is potentially being done is by the screaming fans not Miles.
He has accepted responsibility, his team is rallying around him and the team will likely come together in a great way.
What could be damaging to recuiting is if (and we will) we have a bunch of recruits there for the final game (and Sr. day) and our idiotic fans start booing and acting retarded, whether they are booing the coach or whomever.
OUR SPOILED fan base is the problem, not the coach!
GEAUX TIGERS!!!
Hooah!
My read…Miles accepted responsibility, admitted mistakes, and stated he had learned from the experience. Those are the same things I tried to teach my sons when they were growing up. I am proud of the men they have become. How much more could I ask for in a coach?
I still support Miles, not for his perfection, but for his humanity. I will continue to rant and rave about my Tigers, but will, hopefully, remember that they are MY TIGERS and he is MY COACH. To paraphrase the oath of office, I will “support and defend my Tigers against all enemies, both foreign( outside the LSU family) and domestic (within the family)”…
.
Look..
you are starting to become a broken record. I don’t think anyone in here even mentioned Les (until you did) let alone said anything disparaging against him. We were talking recruiting and what hypothetically may happen. I can’t even begin to know why that rubs you the wrong way.
Yes there are the fans that never liked Les; never will, and never miss a chance to let everyone know about how he measures up to Saban (their fairytale image of him anyway). There also appears to be a regime that is averse to even the smallest criticism of him (Les) as a coach, and go out of their way to preach from way on high atop of their soapboxes about how undeserving the unbelievers are.
I think that both of those extremes can use a healthy dosage of STFU already!
On a side note… from what I can remember neither the coaches (LSU) or Nu’Keese were really pursuing each other that heavily. Janzen/Trent/Andre were the heart-breakers. Though we agree that LSU is better served without the headache that Janzen potentially would have brought.
At the end of the day
Experience
Will Rogers said, “Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.” I didn’t even know he watched LSU Football.
