If Crowton is gone
Candidates and why?
I'm not calling for his head but it's looking like he'll be gone (just reading some tea leaves) so the question is...
Who's up next?

My favorite candidate
Bryan Harsin, Boise State OC. Would be a promotion to a BCS School for him.
He’s developed QBs (last year started a redshirt freshman who ended up freshman of the year in the WAC), the offense is a close match to our personnel, he runs a balanced attack (54% run, 46% pass), he utilizes the tight end, and Boise is #1 in scoring offense, #9 in total offense this year. The past three years the Boise offense has been 10th, 18th, and 10th in total offense, 13th, 4th, and 2nd in scoring offense.
I know it’s mostly against WAC competition, but Boise has dominated their conference, has beaten Oregon twice, Oklahoma once, and lost to TCU by a point last year in their bowl.
CHAD JONES! WOOOO!!!!
How about...
Dana Holgorsen at Houston? The offense is not so balanced as Boise, but they put up pretty good points against some decent opponents. Of course, I like the Harsin idea better, but there looks to be a lot of talent out there at OC in some of the non-BCS schools.
My only issue with some of the AirRaid type offenses
is that they tend to put a lot of pressure on your D. Malzahn’s offense is more run oriented but it has the same problem. Possessions are so quick the D gets worn out. It’s ok when you win shootouts (and they do have plenty of blowouts), but it’s harder when you run into a really good ball possession offense.
CHAD JONES! WOOOO!!!!
not all about the air raid guys
so holgorsen would not make my list.
i like harsin, whipple at miami and to a lesser extent kragthorpe although he is a guy that people seem to like or hate.
if i had my druthers, whipple 1st then harsin. i cant remember the tamu off cord (calhoun?? that’s not right i don’t think) i wouldn’t mind him, although he has some exciting things ahead for that promisng QB of theirs. sherman basically had to start from scratch with recruiting, man coach fran sucks. idc really because of my disdain for all things A&M related.
Whipple would be OK
I really don’t understand the Kragthorpe love. If you look at the offensive rankings at both Louisville and Tulsa, they aren’t great. Better than what we have today, but not outstanding.
Billy Gomilla posted in another thread his thoughts on Miles’ criteria for the new OC. Based on that, I have a feeling Al Borges may be a sleeper candidate. I would actually prefer Borges to Kragthorpe, which gives you an idea how much I don’t like the idea of Kragthorpe.
CHAD JONES! WOOOO!!!!
Kragthorpe's resume blows Whipple out the water
Mark Whipple has exactly one noteworthy season as an OC — and it’s not like Miami’s offense kept up the pace they were setting in the first month when people initially started drooling over the guy.
Kragthorpe’s Tulsa teams were good offenses, and yeah he didn’t get the job done at Louisville, but he wouldn’t be LSU’s head coach, would he? The Louisville situation is a long story — it wasn’t the plum job it appeared to be post-Petrino.
Kragthorpe’s a fundamentals guy with quarterbacks who’s learned from pro’s pros in the NFL like Kevin Gilbride, Ernie Zampese and Dan Henning. He’s probably not my first choice either but I wouldn’t totally pan the hire.
