Worst possible bowl......
Any body who knows anything about LSU in bowl games is dreading this disaster waiting to happen. Day time games is not LSU’s strong point. When you take the time to consider the Capital One Bowl will be kicking off at 10 AM WCST 11AM MST 11:59AM CST (NEW year’s DAY) this meaningless Bowl will most likely end in disaster fort LSU. I hope I’m wrong 100%… but those in the know, know better.
All of Miles bowl wins have come at night time when LSU is clearly in it element. When it was announced LSU post season bowl appearance would be in a non BCS, AM up with Joe Pop’s Lions I knew Les Miles series of Bowl victories would be coming to an end.
Miles and his hand picked group of coaches have systematically dismantled a once GREAT program …. Watch as LSU’s 5 star recruits run fast to football programs who will let them play … and will not embarrass and humiliate them on National TV .
The only good thing about LSU playing in the Capital One Bowl is 93.7% of the college football watching public will not be awake to see this disaster. LSU would have been much better off playing in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport … its the only Bowl game on that day and the game is played at night when about 30 to 40 million more people would have been watching.
The Capital One Bowl is one of the least watched bowl games, it meaningless and its broadcast when most folks are still in dat bed with a fat head.

I hadn't considered these things...
You bring up some good points. I had forgotten that this bowl game was so early. I remember myself still crusty eyed a few years back watching Wisconsin run over Auburn in this bowl game. The last several games in this series are not very memorable. You have given me cause for concern now.
2002 January 1, 2003 Auburn 13 Penn State 9
2003 January 1, 2004 Georgia 34 Purdue 27 (OT)
2004 January 1, 2005 Iowa 30 LSU 25
2005 January 2, 2006 Wisconsin 24 Auburn 10
2006 January 1, 2007 Wisconsin 17 Arkansas 14
2007 January 1, 2008 Michigan 41 Florida 35
2008 January 1, 2009 Georgia 24 Michigan State 12

good points....sorta
good point = this game is early on New Years Day which is not as good as later in the day. I know the this is a great bowl to be in, and I am not agreeing w/ everything posted above. I just am allowing some of my natural pessimism to filter in w/ the “Miles always blows out bowl opponents” stuff. I think we will win…but I also haven’t really given this match up a closer look yet.

By this
I meant C.D.’s worst possible bowl post…
“Watch as LSU’s 5 star recruits run fast to football programs who will let them play … and will not embarrass and humiliate them on National TV”.
I guess another top three to five class is just plain miserable, right?
40 Million more watching the Indy bowl? Mwuhahahahahahaaha (no comment needed)
Miles’ hand picked coaches: Bo Pelini, Mike Gundy, Larry Porter, Frank Wilson, Mike Gonzales, the Great Yano, John Chavis, etc….
Those ‘in the know’ as you put it, know that Miles IS very well respected in coaching circles and despite the claims every year that recruiting is going to suffer we keep getting talent by the truck load.
Enjoy your hang over, I’ll be in Orlando watching our Tigers dismantle a coaching legend.
(And wow, how great to see him coach before he’s gone! – I was four the last time we had this particular big cat-fight!)

Throughout the day
I have read, re-read and considered responding to this post. I would hope that C.D. penned this post to get discussion started, and does not really believe what he wrote. I simply cannot respond to this post in any rational way. Methinks C.D. is having a bad day, much worse that the TIGERS will have in Orlando.

a refute
“Day time games is not LSU’s strong point” – regular season, this is correct. now that classes are out and we can practice at any time of the day we can schedule the ramped up practices around noon to get our guys’ bodies conditioned to peaking at this time.
“meaningless Bowl” – any bowl played between BCS conference’s #3 teams is hardly meaningless. would you have rathered us turn down the invite? that would probably do wonders to our national image and recruiting. you think UGA wouldn’t rather be in this bowl than the Indy?
“Miles and his hand picked group of coaches have systematically dismantled a once GREAT program” - by returning to the same bowl the team played the season before he showed up. what a monumental decline.
“93.7% of the college football watching public will not be awake to see this disaster.” – last year’s Cap1 was viewed by over 10 million, making it the 5th most watched bowl of last season, behind BCSNC, Rose, Fiesta and Sugar. if you’re expecting nobody to watch, you’re in for a surprise.
“better off playing in the Independence Bowl…about 30 to 40 million more people would have been watching” – last year’s Indy was viewed by 1.2 million. btw, only 27 million watched the BCSNC
“The Capital One Bowl is one of the least watched bowl games” – see above… it’s actually one of the most watched games.

Rec'd
Didn’t know the exact stats, but the Cap One is generally considered the next tier down from the BCS games (along with the Cotton).
C.D. – Are you sure you’re not at least somewhat confusing Cap One with the Outback Bowl (which kicks off at 11 am Eastern?) It’s less prestigious and would fit more of your criticisms.

Yay!
Another Big 10 team? Who’s it gonna be? Rutgers? Pitt? Personally, I think the Big 10 needs to contract a team rather than add another so that the name of the conference makes sense.

I don't remember where I saw this floated out there
And I know it is a HUGE long shot, but to me, if you’re Boise State, you try to be the 12th team. I know that geographically it doesn’t work great, but they’re going to get left out when the MWC (probably) gets an automatic bid in 2 years, so they should try hard now to get into a new conference. Probably won’t happen, but interesting idea.
