LSU to play Penn State in the Cap One
It's official! Hell, check out all the bowls. I will, oddly enough, be in Disney World in a week, so I will scout the city out for the Tigers.

I'm happy.
I’d rather be in the Sugar, but this is the next best thing.
Besides, Penn State is a nice challenge for the Tigers. Two legends of Bowl Game coaching will meet. Joe Paterno has the most bowl wins of any coach in history, and Les has dominated every opponent he’s faced while at LSU. Can’t wait for New Year’s Day.

Agree with this
This is a very exciting matchup for me as a PSU fan.

did lsu get a new coach??
joe pa is a legend of bowl game coaching…bobby bowden is a legend of bowl game coaching…les miles is a legend of bowl game coaching? at 5-2
His 4-0 Record at LSU, along with a 157-44 scoring advantage in those games, makes him a legend IMO.

Mike Riley is a beast
And I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for him to be LSU’s HC.
but, but, but...
he’s a bama man. you can’t have a bama man coach lsu can you??
given that bama has had 37 coaching searches in the last decade, he’s been tossed around as a candidate on more than one occasion, but i don’t think ever all that seriously considered.
Joe Paterno is 23-11-1
We should put his face on the moon.

Paterno is 7-1 all-time against Bobby Bowden
and 1-0 all-time against Mike Riley
I don’t know what this means, other than LSU shouldn’t fire Les Miles and have Bowden step in as head coach.
I grew up in Maryland...
… so I deeply hate Penn St. Looking forward to the game!

Yup.
Makes perfect sense.

1-35-1
Maryland never beat Penn St. OK, they did in 1961, but then they lost 23 straight times until finally getting a friggin’ tie. Then they lost four more times. Watching the Terps get their ass kicked by PSU every year is a pretty horrible childhood memory.
Actually, the five close games before the tie were even worse. It was like watching Charlie Brown try and kick a football. So close.
Penn St is the bogeyman of my early college football fandom.

Was a pretty rough run there.
However, the Terps played great in a 17-15 1986 loss and damn near derailed the most fantabulous bowl game evah:

Great article if you’ve never read it (and if you don’t crave Jimmy Johnson or his Canes).

I have read that article
That was one of the greatest football games I have ever seen. Really. I still think the 1984 Orange Bowl between Nebraska and Miami is the best ever, followed by the 2005 Texas-USC Rose Bowl. But then I rank that PSU-Miami game.
Everything about that game was awesome. Supposedly, there is going to be footage of the banquet at which the PSU players “offended” the Miami players in the upcoming Miami documentary on ESPN. So looking forward to that.

"For me the game wasn’t grounded in reality. It was about the uniform you put on that turned you into a warrior. It was about the mythology of the battle, the victory, the defeat, the struggle." - Mike Reid, PSU '69
By Giving Miles four weeks
to prepare for PSU, he will have dissected how Joe Pa laces his shoes. Miles has shown an amazing ability to prepare a team for bowl play.
Eh..
probably, but in his position he can’t really pick from the litter. He has been a career coordinator IIRC. If he gives Louisville even moderate success over a 3 year period I believe a bigger program may come a calling.

Looking forward to the game.
If any of you know my LSU-alum brah Russ Bailey of Stiehl Insurance in N.O., kick him in the ass for me.
