Who Are LSU's Top SEC Football Rivals?

I'm preparing a thread over at sister SB Blog Track 'Em Tigers to determine who every team in the SEC ranks as their three biggest rivals and compare the cross-over. I'd like to know who Purple Tiger fans feel are their top three conference rivals, either current or past. Please help me out and vote in this poll and I'll compile all the results into a thread next week.

Thanks!

Greg

Probably not...

…but most of them would. Certainly if you through the term ‘heated’ into the mix…

That's only the last couple years..

Overall since LSU’s resurgence, Auburn has been the bigger rival, I think. That may change soon, but lately Auburn’s been our key opponent.

Maybe...

do a new poll and take the top 3? I want to get this right.

With all the GREAT games between LSU and Auburn over the years...

how can Auburn not be high on the list. I am sure you all remember the Earthquake Game. I fondly remember the Interception game. There have so many great games in the rivalry that it is hard to remember them all.

Another thing about Auburn/LSU, that has got to be the hardest hitting SEC game of the year.

by Jumpn_JackFlash on Feb 12, 2009 3:12 PM CST up reply actions

I love...

how a lot of these games get nicknames, like ‘Earthquake’, ‘Interception’, ‘Cigar’, ‘Extra-Kick’, etc.

The Interception Game still ranks as the damnest Auburn game I’ve ever seen. I still feel bad for Jamie Howard. At least you guys were able to jettison Curley Hallman…

Sorry...

But we call that one Hail Mary in the End Zone

:-)

Just a difference in semantics…

I go back to the days of McClendon and Vaught

Even though the rivalry has lessened over the last few years, I still have memories of golden years of these games. I think that since both teams are on the move again we will see a more competitive series and a return to the glory days. Houston Nutt is one of the best game coaches in the SEC and very underrated.

Depends on age

I inherited a serious hate for Ole Miss from my dad as they were the big rival most of his life. And I wouldn’t necessarily put Bama up there. I would actually have Auburn as the second and then Florida. Bama is a very recent phenomenon.

Concur...

As I’ve said many times…
My Grandfather hates Tulane,
My Dad hates Ole Miss,
And Auburn has been the thorn in our side through most of my fandom.

Seconded

I’m a 1984 grad and I hate Alabama. Then it’s close between Auburn and Florida. The chop block game moved Auburn up, but with Tuberville and Nall gone, I’d give the edge to Florida.

Tulane and Ole Miss have been irrelevant for a long time. Although that may change if Ole Miss beats us two in a row.

by The Bengal on Feb 12, 2009 9:18 AM CST up reply actions

yeah but...

if you beat ole miss and arkansas you get a trophy!!! that means they are big time rivals right??

by gerry dorsey on Feb 12, 2009 11:15 AM CST reply actions

Have you seen those trophies?

oh i've seen them

i was actually being a smartass. most lsu fans i know think those trophies are pretty ridiculous. at least lsu/ole miss has some history, but the whole “golden boot” thing just feels so forced.

by gerry dorsey on Feb 12, 2009 2:51 PM CST up reply actions

I got that

So was I. One was created to manufacture a rivalry, the other was created after 100 years of hate for a rivalry that’s just not that intense anymore. And both of them look like crap.

They were probably designed by the same guy that thought that this:

looked better than this:

Insignificant

How does it feel to have someone listed as your #1 rival and then they list you as their #3 rival? I for one actually hold your program equal to Tennessee in respect to how highly I consider us mortal grid iron enemies….However as a fan base you guys are not that important to us….I for one hope you guys keep Les Miles for a very long time because as this rivalry between Saban and Miles continues, Auburns football program will suffer a decade of boring meaningless seasons under Chizik, Kiffin will be full of hot air….you guys could make up some serious ground on this rivalry ranking, as if it matters anyways when one team is standing in the way of the other teams trip to ATL

well considering they are the best competition we have

I would say that the Alabama LSU game is pretty big.

36-0

by Bamabrave4 on Feb 18, 2009 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

Once again, I will point out..

He has ASSUMED that we would consider Alabama our #1 rival.

Richard Pittman

by Richard Pittman on Feb 19, 2009 7:24 AM CST up reply actions

Well...

Alabama was chosen for LSU as the #1 rival and Alabama’s top 2 rivals were chosen for them so the highest LSU could be was #3.

by shelby924 on Feb 18, 2009 2:20 PM CST reply actions

True but...

It would have worked out that way on our end more than likely anyway….not so sure on your end Richard what is your top 3 ?
