Minnesota is using a regular starter..
Baylor is using someone who pitched 30 innings.

Barring a miracle..
We get Minnesota in the finals. They’re up 15-5 as Baylor’s bullpen just couldn’t hold it together.

Interesting decision to bench Hanover..
and not start Landry against the righty

How do you get 35 runs in a baseball game?
You should be able 27 outs by luck before that.

Good job DJ and Derek!
Three runs in the second, so far. The decision to play Helenihi works out for now.

If the pitch that struck out Nola was a strike, it was a great pitch
It was not hittable.

Schimpf finally hits..
but we get an out at the plate. Still though, we got 4 runs and we’re in command for the moment.

Gophers warming up in the pen… I’m surprised they have someone left to throw

Their bullpen is not in such bad shape
They didn’t burn through everyone through the first two days. I’m actually pretty surprised they put this guy in. They have better pitchers available.

It's going to be awful hard for Minnesota
to score 7 runs in this game, but I sure would like to score more runs and get our bullpen some work.

Just Off Work
As a realtor, you have to be available when the client is…even if it makes you miss the first 5 innings of the game. But, it looks like you guys have been encouraging the Tigers. Agree with Pittman, 7 runs looks very good, but could be better
Well, they ain't getting 8 runs on Coleman..
But it would be nice to pull Coleman after about 6 or 7 and still be confident we’ll win. It will keep Coleman’s pitches down and give our bullpen a little work.

Hawthorne should know that righty submariners are murder against
righties and get killed by lefties.
9 runs is enough, I think. Let’s let Coleman go one more inning and get someone else in.

Really don’t see Minnesota getting 9 runs against anybody. Might as well pull Louis after the 6th and let Byrd and Cain pitch an inning

I bet Derek McCallum can grow an awesome beard

Mitchell did not make that catch..
He went after it with his glove, then rolled over, and came up with it in his hand. That ball was on the ground.

I don't really think so..
He got up and threw to 2nd. If he was trying to pretend he made the catch, he’d have gone straight to 1st. He was playing it as a hit.

I don't know..
part of me says you should just own up to it if you didn’t get it. At this point it doesn’t really matter anyway.

One of the ethical canons of lawyers is..
You can’t just outright lie to the judge or the jury.

I don’t think Rule 11 applies to right fielders.
In any event it’s really not the player’s job to decide who’s safe and who’s out. The umpires have to make that decision, and they should ignore what the players say one way or another. If you want to make an argument for replay, that’s one thing. But it’s not fair to put the onus on the players to make those calls.
by 4.0 Point Stance on May 31, 2009 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions
I just think that..
especially in a game that’s a rout, if you know the umpire is making a bad call in your favor, go ahead and correct him. It’s sportsmanship. I know it’ll never happen in a million years.

Agree with that. In coaching Dixie Youth, I always wanted to tell my kids to own up
but only after they were definitely questioned on it. I guess when the men in blue are wrong, you have to accept it, whether it is in your favor or against you.
Dixie League is different in my opinion, because you’re there not only to teach the kids how to play baseball but also to teach them Important Life Lessons about teamwork, hustling, and in this case honesty.
But by the time you get to bigtime college athletics, it’s about winning ballgames. Nobody would accuse Irvine of “dishonesty” for using the hidden ball trick last year, for instance.

Did you catch the Fla St - Ohio St debacle?
The announcer sang ‘Daddies don’t let your babies grow up to be batgirls’ out of boredom.

He usually goes 7 or 8
It just seems unwise at this point though. We need to get bullpen some work, and it won’t kill us to keep Coleman’s pitch count down for once.

Do we have an official pitch count for Coleman?
by 4.0 Point Stance on May 31, 2009 8:20 PM CDT reply actions
One of the drawbacks of gametracker..
no pitch count. Whatever system LSU and other SEC teams normally use, it keeps pitch counts.

Although they’ll be back in the Box next week, so I don’t see the point.

Just no consideration
My 4 legged beast (a long hair chihuahua) decided it was time for his walk, in spite of the fact that the Tigers were playing. But it looks like I didn’t really miss much.
This Gametracker thing is strange..
It separately lists doubles, sacrifices, and caught stealings, but not home runs, errors, or stolen bases.

McCallum kept it on the ground,
so there would be no possible way that Mitchell could appear to catch it.
It's almost over
McCallum is Minnesota’s Todd Walker.

Does anyone realize that Ohio State went 2-2
but gave up 61 runs in the tournament?
Richard Pittman
by Richard Pittman on May 31, 2009 8:51 PM CDT reply actions
Talk about two totally different teams from THE Ohio State University
Gave up 61 in two losses; gave up a total of 10 in the two wins.
My math was wrong..
71 runs in 4 games. and they won two of them.
I think Hawthorne is right that the 37-run game will cause some rule changes. I don’t know how it happened, but it won’t happen again.

The coaches and umps met to discuss shortening the game.
But I’m not sure why that didn’t happen.
