The injury is but the latest in a series of events well beyond unfortunate for the young man who will turn 23 years old in one week and who already came fully back from a devastating knee injury suffered in the state playoffs when he was a junior at Rayville High School.

Both of Murphy's parents died before he won a full scholarship to LSU, his mother succumbing to cancer during his senior year at Rayville High School. Murphy has spoken about how he went into a sort of emotional shell at that point and he arrived on campus somewhat bewildered by his losses and the huge jump in the game.

LSU tailback Richard Murphy needs surgery is apparently done for the season - NOLA.com
. Terrible for this young man, who I thought was running very well, and was perhaps in line to get more touches. He was also good on special teams. His loss is bigger for the Tigers than his 3rd team status would suggest.

At the VERY least

This young man will get a paid-for college education and do something with it. That said, I think he’ll be back next year, hopefully redshirted, and have a chance to make a name for himself for the NFL draft, ‘cause he’s certainly got the skills.

I'm pretty sure Murphy has already redshirted.

I think this year he’s a 4th year junior, and he’ll be a 5th year senior next year. If he get’s another year, he’ll be trying to gain a 6th year, like Alexander and Pitman.

Terrible

I really thought he had a chance to break out this year. Hopefully surgery will be successful and he can redshirt.

good luck to him. Hope he has a great recovery.

So I guess this means more time for Stevan Ridley and Michael Ford.

Jrlz rhymes with Charles.

Richard Murphy

Was so sad to hear of this season ending injury to a young man who has had so many personal tragedies. He has the heart of a lion.
Hope his recovery will be swift.

Well, I think it’s a bigger loss for next season than this season, as our backfield is loaded, but the 2010 team needs Murphy to get a good share of touches this year so that he can be an experienced guy as the #1 option next year. Gone.

Get well soon, Murph.

And it happened on such an incredible play, too.

Smarter, not harder.

Rich, Rich, Rich…. it’s not that we don’t appreciate your wanting to make the most out of every play, but c’mon man! You hurdled a guy when there were two other defenders just waiting on the other side! What did you think you were going to gain from that? One more yard? I feel bad for you, man, I really do, but there was no desperation scenario. You didn’t have to try and win the game by yourself. It was already won. Sure, I know coach wants his guys to play hard, but you’ve gotta be smart, too.

Get healed up and ready for next year. All us fans will be praying for you (except the atheists, of course) and we know you’ll bounce back.
