I'm not usually a fan of bad football games. Even against an inferior opponent, before kickoff Saturday I was hoping for a close game to whet my appetite for exciting football. I got what I wanted and left the stadium fully satisfied, one of the students chanting L-S-U as I was walking out.
However, I'm sick of the anxiety and nagging. I want a laugher. I want to see this team be what I know they can be on the football field. I want the old and the tired to be filing out of the stadium at half time. The incredible talent we have on offense and defense to come together and have a coming out party. I'm not saying this team will go undefeated or Keiland Williams will win the Heisman or that we'll crush Bama, Ole Miss, or Florida. I'm not delusional. But I want to see the team that will be in those tough games until the final whistle. I want to see the elite, SEC-contending, opponent-intimidating, forceful LSU of recent years. The team that belongs in a BCS bowl game, SEC championship or not. I want a 45-3 game, Jordan Jefferson to complete 70% of his passes, 120 yards from Chuck the Truck, a +3 turnover margin, and Russell Shepard to have multiple plays of 30+ yards. I want to see before me what I am so very sure is capable of being. Just to sleep easy at night, like I should be doing right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm as optimistic of a fan as you'll find. I always believe in my team, and never complain about a win.
But I'm sick of tossing and turning.
