What if we beat UGA
I interrupt the funeral for LSU's 2009 football season and Les Miles's tenure as coach to pose this question: what if we win at UGA on Saturday?
UGA is a good team. They aren't nearly as good as recent UGA teams that won the SEC and went to BCS games. They are 3-1 and 2-0 in the SEC. They opened the season with a 24-10 loss at Oklahoma St. They hung in for the first half and were in a fog in the second half. In the following two weeks they won defense-optional shootouts against South Carolina and at Arkansas--the two classic "scrappy" SEC teams who always seem to be a bit less talented, but dangerous and difficult to beat. Last week they beat Arizona St. at home with a field goal on the last play.
UGA fans have less to be happy about than LSU fans. Their schedule has been harder, but they already have a loss and their defense has been lit up repeatedly. If we're wondering why we only beat Washington by 8 and needed a goal line stand to squeak by MSU, they're wondering how South Carolina and Arkansas managed 37 and 41 points on their defense. So, our team has issues; so does UGA. They are beatable, and we're good enough to beat them if we play well. It will certainly take our best game of the year. Fourtunately, that's not a high standard to surpass.
But if we win, then the people who say we don't belong in the top 10 are going to have to stuff it. Ditto the morons saying Miles is done.

History repeats
It’s over, LSU beat Georgia 26 – 23!!
I’m serious, I just watched it….. On ESPN Classic.
It was a ‘toss up’ according to the experts, LSU was ranked 6th but had a suspect line and the running game just wasn’t clicking so a lot of people were suspicious of the ranking and grumbling was afoot already for the new head coach (Mike Archer) who hadn’t yet lost a game.
On the other hand UGA had one loss to a good Clemson team and was fairly battle tested having beaten OSU, UVA, Ole Miss, USC (Carolina) and was ranked 16th in the country.
With the game being betwixt the hedges a lot of people, including a lot of fatalistic Tiger fans, no doubt, were picking the dawgs.
Despite trailing for most of game the Dawgs intercepted a Tommy Hodson pass late in the 4th quarter. With a short field the Dawgs pushed in for the go ahead score 23-19 w/ less than 5 minutes on the clock.
Lee Corso said the Tigers were going to have to depend on their passing game as they couldn’t run the ball on UGA all day.
So much for that. Hodson and Fuller led the Tigers down field and scored they scored the go ahead touchdown with about four minutes left.
UGA then drove right down the field as time was starting to run out on the clock, very close to field goal range and still driving on 2nd and 5, Kevin Guidry intercepted a pass and the Tigers ran out the clock!
Tiger Win, Tigers Win, Tigers Win!!!!

If LSU beats Georgia..
it’s an entirely new season and all the ills of the first 4 weeks are forgotten at least for a while. It’s really a one-game season in some ways. It is a real test of where we are. Is a struggling LSU better than a struggling Georgia? If so, we’re well on our way to a New Year’s bowl, I think. If not, I don’t know where this season is headed.

Imagine if we actually beat Georgia convincingly
I know it’s low odds, though clearly not as low odds as most of the LSU faithful believe. But we all know that winning it in a convincing fashion would make the vast majority of the currently exasperated lower echelons of the LSU fanbase totally reconsider the 2005-2007 stretch under Miles. It’s ridiculous; the accomplishments of those years should stand alone, as I think Poseur has noted elsewhere on here, but one game would most likely make a big chunk of the fan base re-evaluate a coach’s entire record. We’ve underachieved this year, but Les deserves better. This whole week has really galvanized my support for the guy, though I wholly concede that we should be playing much better.

I'm hoping for a convincing win..
You know the type where you win by a margin of 2 pick 6s.

Amen!
I already had a man crush on the Hat, now I’m in protective mode and it’s a full out Bro-mance!!
If we beat UGA or if we don’t, if we crush them or not – if we lose a few more games or win them all it doesn’t matter. This man has ALREADY done more for this program than ANY COACH before him and for our fan base to be turning on him for being un-freaking-beaten is un-freaking-believable!
Love the Tigers, hating (some of) the fans right now!
By the way, I have thought all year that Les is holding back and was using just enough to beat the teams we were playing, a little better execution on none of those four games would have been close.
I think LSU will open up the playbook and a can of whooping this weekend betwixt the hedges. WHEN they do, I want every one of you Miles haters to shut your computers down and geaux to the airport in Baton Rouge to bow on your stinking knees when they land Saturday Night!
Geaux you Mighty Tigers!!!

Holding back
I don’t think he’s been holding back, we’ve just gone cross country to play UW and then played in two monsoons (Vandy and MSU). That usually has an impact on the sloppiness of play.

I totally agree with the distance and conditions, which are points I have been trying to make but I also don’t think we’ve seen anything but the basics!
It all comes together this weekend!

I think we will see some surprises
or at least a few new wrinkles. Win or lose, I bet we’ll see a better team overall than what we’ve seen in the previous four games.
