JACK HUNT!!! JACK HUNT!!!
Congratulations this morning to Devery Henderson, Randall Gay, and all the Saints for their fantastic win in the Dome last night. I think it's safe to say most LSU fans, at least the local ones, are Saints fans too and to go from damn near losing the team to being a game away from winning it all feels so great.
Your regularly schedualed posts will resume later this morning. Till then I recomend you check out SBNation's Saints Blog, Canal Street Chronicles.

There are no words
I don’t think it’s possible for me to articulate how much I hate the Colts. Let’s put it like this, when Bob Irsay died, I toasted his death.
So, even though I’m not from Louisiana, go Saints. Truly, America’s Team

I was there
After having breakfast at Brennan’s and spending the day in the Quarter. I’m still recovering and the words can’t describe. That was for my dad’s who’s had season tickets for 35 years — for his dad, my Uncles Steve and Timmy, their dad’s Lee and James, Buddy D, Hap Glaudi, Jim Henderson (who had to have been hugging Hokie Gaijan on that final “Its Goo-hoo-hooo-hoooood!” call), Bobby Hebert, the Bearded Nun, Abdul the Tentmaker, the two Billy Joes and for every time we watched defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.
That. Was. Sweet.
Oh
I can’t believe Bayless would have anything negative to say. It’s so sad that the state of “journalism” is reduced to stirring up people’s emotions as opposed to reporting something fair and honest. There was an article in the New York Post 10 minutes after the game was over saying the refs were to blame. It’s BS.
Bayless can bleaux me.
There were bad/questionable calls on both sides all through that game
But the Vikings have no one to blame but themselves. 5 turnovers, 3 in the red zone and the last interception was vintage Bret Favre, throwing across his body across the field.
Geaux Saints! Beat the Colts!
Apparently the prevailing national theory is that the refs screwed the Vikings out of this game
What the hell. I’m shocked. OK I’ll grant that the late PI call giving us a first down was ticky tack to say the least, and shouldn’t have been called. Other than that I don’t think the Vikings have much to complain about. And I think that was more than made up by the phantom roughing the passer call where Hargrove tackled Favre as he was letting go of the ball, which turned a 4th down into a 1s and led directly to a Vikings TD.
Now I expected the pundits to all say “The Saints didn’t win this one the Vikings lost it.” And that’s got some truth. But to blame it on the refs is indefensible and stupid.
What did Skip Bayless say by the way?

Really?
I thought the defender tackled the receiver well before the ball got there and it was a pretty obvious flag. The flag for tackling Favre was the worst call in the game.
I did think the refs ruined OT by the interminable replays for spotting the ball. But that wasn’t favoring either team, just made the game more unwatchable than an NBA game.

I thought it was clearly an unreachable pass
Replays for spotting are almost always huge wastes of time, but this was one of those games that was so nerve wracking I didn’t even notice that it took 4 and a half freaking hours. I’m sure that for people without a vested rooting interest it felt interminable.

As a fairly neutral fan -- it was friggin unwatchable
The OT took 20-25 minutes to play 5 minutes of football. It had no rhythm whatsoever, just a brutal game to watch. Replay is fine, but it was just used to overkill. Spotting the football is not some exact science, and its ridiculous to pretend it is, and the spots were fine on the field. Maybe review the 4th down play to see if Thomas lost control on the hit, but they reviewed the 3rd down play and missed the most obvious error: no one ever touched Henderson when he was down. The play never ended.
Fox used the camera angle making it look the worst on replay. In live action, the ball was about two yards out of reach, or about one step and a dive which the receiver couldn’t do because he was busy being tackled. The ball was leading the receiver, and he certainly could have reached the spot had he not been brought to the ground. I think the controversy is entirely based on a very bad camera angle. I thought it was PI as the play happened.

+1
i completely agree. The constant fumbles made it hard to watch and ot was so slow i actually fell asleep on the couch and had to check the score when i woke up. As for bad calls, the saints had an early td where the runner was clearly down early but It’s negligible because it would have been first and goal from the 1

I'd rather the replays then bad calls
But I think everything should be reviewed — and if referees don’t like getting second-guessed go find a new job. Don’t get me started on officials lol I’m in too good of a mood.

The worst part of the roughing call on Favre
was in the 4th quarter one of the Vikings did the same thing to Brees and wasn’t called.
I strongly recommend everybody read
Drew Magary’s column over at Kissing Suzy Kolber.
Now that is how you complain about your team.
Thank you for that recommendation
I will now spend the next 14 hours reading every article he’s ever written making fun of Peter King.

I saw that..
… waiting to see if there’s any other news before talking about it, but it certainly makes the loss of Hunter easy to swallow. Honestly, I’d rather have Wright. He seems to be more of a pure WR, there’s no concern about track interfering with his career (to add bulk or not to add bulk?), and he’s a Louisiana kid.

I didn't want to create Another Fan Post
But here is my article on Wright and finishing strong, if anyone wants to check it out.

Agreed...
the split second that the football split the uprights might be my absolute very best sport’s memory to date.
As for all of the bitching by nay sayers about the officials I say, at one point in the game, the Viking had only been flagged 2 times, and the Saints had been flagged 9.
And to those who say the Vikings lost the game, as opposed to the Saints winning the , I call total BS on that excuse. There are two way to view the turnovers…they can be viewed as give aways when caused by unforced errors, or they can viewed as takeaways when the defense dictates the play and causes the t.o. In last night’s game, at least 4 of the 5 turnovers can clearly be viewed as takeaways (with the sole exception maybe possibly being the fumble on the exchange right before the half). So, to the Adrian Peterson’s of the world, and the New York Times, get a life, get some perspective, and respect the game and what happened last night…THE SAINTS ARE GOING TO DA SUPERBOWL!!!!!

There's a great comment thread on the game
over at EDSBS. Every school is taking a little bit of credit for their players’ stopping Favre from going to the Super Bowl.

Nice title. I cut Hawthorne a little slack because Jack Hunt and Devery Henderson look alike.
Ha
Anybody could’ve made that mistake. Right?
