I found myself asking the question last night, "What's the point? What's the point of playing in the SEC if there is no competitive reward?" The reward being the respect that is due a one loss team in the SEC. Sense of entitlement? No...well, maybe. Inability to understand how going undefeated in a non-AQ conference is more highly respected than a one loss SEC team? Absolutely.
Take a look at the Boise State-Idaho woodshedding that took place on Friday night. Did you listen to the way those guys flooded Boise with comments? "Wow, this is the best Boise team EVER!" "Man, they sure are making Idaho look bad!" No, Boise isn't making Idaho look bad, Idaho is TERRIBLE. There are 5A high school teams in Louisiana that could give Idaho a run for their money. I know, I know...ESPN HATES LSU AHHHHH! I certainly don't think that way but the most objective viewer could see the discrepancies in the coverage of the BSU game and the LSU game. Boise beat down a completely helpless team and the spotlight is all over them LSU beats a completely helpless team and its expected of us. Granted it is expected of us to hammer teams like that, and man am I happy the EDSBS blog prediction didn't come true, as facetious as it may have been, but there is certainly a double standard. Boise proponents complain that we say they don't play anyone and then we turn around and play a directional school but come on, we beat bama last week while yall were off playing dopesmoker U from some hole in the wall town in California or Idaho or Nevada.
Get to the point will you? Yes, I will. If Boise and TCU are rewarded with a title shot over a one loss pac 10, SEC, or even big 10 team (BLASPHEMER!) then what is the point in playing in a big time conference? Aside from all the merchandising, ticket sales, tv exposure and chicks... Teams like Boise and TCU and now to a lesser extent, Utah need to quit hiding behind their "don't blame us, we play the conference schedule we are required to play, we can't help it." Yes, you can help it. Utah is going to the Pac 12, which I must admit is pretty sexy to me. TCU may or may not go to the big east which is a step in the right direction for them and then there is Boise who is making the big move to the MWC just in time to have even less competition then they have already.
LSU should leave the SEC, join the sun belt, go undefeated every year and get title shots just about every year...if undefeated Boise or TCU get an invite to the BCSNCG, why not?
