Kicker James Hairston Commits
Bit puzzled on this one. This comes just a day or so after the news that Dalton Botts officially switched to Miami. This was an expected move, as many thought he was a back-up option in case Brad Wing didn't get eligible.
Many, including myself, thought Botts would go elsewhere freeing up a scholarship for a different position, but Miles and co. obviously felt getting a kicker was important.
I don't know much about Hairston as a kicker, and this is by no means a shot on his abilities, but this is a puzzling offer/commitment to say the least.

Just a note...
Hairston is a VERY Good kicker.

Nice words about him there.
Backup punter and kicker all in one
Good to have a plan B in both areas. So that’s 19. Let’s see here…
20. OBJ
21. Mickey Johnson
22. Jamaurio Rasco
23. Kendall Thompson, Ray Drew, or Timmy Jernigan.

I think...
Whatever ship was there for Kendall Thompson… has sailed.
Ray Drew is my call for the shocker pickup of the year.
Lots of national folks think we lead for Jernigan.
Should be an interesting finish.
Freak... Jernigan... Drew... Rasco...
…………………… Let that marinate for a while.
Somewhere an SEC QB just shit himself.
it looks like Bott is a Chris Sailer guy too
If only I would have known about the Rubio School of Long Snapping, my dream of being a D-1 football player would have been realized. Damn you fate!

My cousin and I
Have a plan to make our children into long snappers so that they can go on to 20-year NFL careers.
If you can do that, you can find WORK lol.

That question would only be legitimate if this were an Arkansas blog.

Well played
I walked into that one.
Though seriously, Kendal Gammon is still bouncing around the NFL I bet…

Les Miles <3 Special Teams
As he should. It’s won him a lot of games here.
As a side note, it made me smile when the radio announcers for the WVU-NCState game last night referred to their holder-behind-the-back-pitch fake field goal as the ‘LSU play.’
Well Jasper is graduating
and maybe the staff doesn’t have much confidence in Alleman.
That or maybe injury

Sure he's a great kicker, but the important question is
WHAT’S HIS 40 TIME?

Rec'd for a good joke...
But seriously…What’s his 40 time?

I'll say this
If the kid’s an automatic endzone kick-off specialist, that alone is worth a scholarship.
His interview with Shea Dixon up at Tiger Sports Digest is excellent.

Keep in mind that Hairston is kicking off from the 40 yard line
as opposed to the 30 yard line he’ll be kicking from in college.
I’m still impressed.
Jrlz rhymes with Charles.
We don't know what went on in his recruitment.
It very likely could have been that the coaches told him that if Wing becomes eligible, we will not need your services and will help you get another scholarship offer. If Wing does not become eligible, we’d love to have you. Heck, Wing became eligible in the Summer. Wouldn’t the coaches have “pushed” him out earlier?

Familiar
That school has a recent history of special teams players. Jack Geyser played long snapper for Boston College in like 2006. Nick Tausch kicked for ND last football year. He should be a good asset if he stays out of trouble….I went to that school in 08 so i have a small bias
