I was heading to NOLA for Mardi Gras when...
I saw something in Alabama that almost made me throw up a little in my mouth. I was passing a big SUV somewhere around Birmingham when I noticed a red square bumber sticker in the lower right hand corner of the back window. In the center of the square was a large "S" and beneath it read "the coach." It was remniscient of the "W" stickers people used to have on their cars after 9/11 when they thought George might not wreck the country...we saw how that turned out. I'm not suggesting that Sabin will wreck Bama, but I am saying that if I loved my coach, this is not how I would choose to honor him.
I think it would have been more appropriate for Tennessee fans to have had "K...the coach" bumper stickers.

Typical bama
Not even an original idea. Plenty of those “S the coach” stickers on LSU’s campus back when he was still here. I’ve even seen a few M’s for miles.

I've never seen an LSU version of S for saban
In fact the first version of those I’d ever seen was O “The Coach” in Ole Miss. They were really drinking the Orgeron Kool-ade for a while.
Uugh...
now I really do feel sick. Our fans had those stickers as well?
Also, I apologize for bringing the ugly face of politics to this great site. I really just wanted to get in one last jab at Kiffin and the UT fans that bought into what he was selling. I will try to avoid political commentary on this site in the future.
In the spirit of setting politics aside, the thing that bothers me the most about those stickers is that they are just so damned pretentious. As if anyone is really worthy of being known by a single letter and called “the coach.” At least with the President, he really was “The President,” (and not simply “a president”). Also he was actually known as “W” even if it was used mostly to distinguish him from his father.

i'm not saying they're not retarded
but to pin it on bama fans is most definitely retarded. i’ve seen these things for tons of other people both coaches and non coaches (including the current president). a 3 second google image search shows the same stickers for houston nutt, roy williams, chip kelly, mike leach (oops), and yes…kiffin (double oops). and i’d bet my next paycheck there are many, many more if you really look.
Gerry
do us all a favor and find another word for retarded. unless, you just want to have everyone view your posts in a more negative light.

First, I agree that using retarded to describe acts is politically incorrect.
And, yes, I didn’t research these types of stickers and I’m sure that if I had I would have many of the examples that you cite. This was a gut reaction post, not a research and discuss post. Regardless, my point is that these stickers are another “R” word…“ridiculous.” But I guess as fans we tend to err toward the ridiculous. Why else would I wear a bright purple and old super tight LSU bike jersey while riding in traffic on a regular basis in Kentucky and Ohio? Surely its because I’m [insert R-word of choice here].
