LSU wide receiver Terrance Toliver was one of three men issued a misdemeanor citation early Sunday morning for participating in a fight outside a Baton Rouge bar, sources at LSU confirmed.

Toliver, who is from Hempstead, Texas, was tasered by Baton Rouge City Police at 2 a.m. outside of Fred's, a lounge located in the Tigerland area, according to a police spokesman. He was charged with disturbing the peace, public intoxication and interfering with a police officer.

...

LSU men's basketball player Dennis Harris was also issued a citation for interfering with a police officer.

LSU men's basketball Coach Trent Johnson said through the sports information office that he will meet with Harris as soon as possible but would not comment until his Monday press briefing.

Umm.....Crap?

Not good. He’s not someone we can afford to have doing stupid things, although in his defense, he said he was trying to break something up, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

let me start by saying

this is not a big deal at all in my opinion. getting scrappy at a bar when you’re a college student is just some crap that happens somtimes…especially in tigerland. that being said, the number of people on this planet who have gotten tasered while breaking up a fight is pretty damn small. hell people don’t even getting tasered for being IN a fight very often.

Toliver is like 6'4" 220#

I’m sure the cops are more likely to taze huge, heavily muscled people who could beat them up.

Jrlz's fault

He jinxed us.

Honestly, not a big deal. It’s a misdemeanor citation and I’d really hate for the stuff I pulled in college to be public record (though I did make the Crime Stoppers item in the Reveille once). You’re allowed one stupid moment. Hopefully, he’s appropriately punished and then we all move on with our lives. It’s not like he was sticking up the Circle K.

It's not like...

It’s not like he stole a purse, ran through campus, and got caught in the bathroom.
It’s not like he stalked a girl and busted into her apartment. (Next time use the window.)

By the way, Posuer put a dead possum in his neighbor’s dorm room.

by uberschuck on Mar 8, 2010 3:31 PM CST up reply actions

That was you with the possum

I packed someone’s door in packing tape. I also put tuna fish in someone’s room the day before spring break, giving his room a delightful odor. I also am a world champion penny locker.

Larry Foster’s arrest was great on several levels. A team captain gets arrested, kinda sad. A wide receiver can’t outrun a bunch of kids in the quad, funny.

Headlinin’: More unexpected buzz for LSU’s Toliver

I'm not happy about it.

Toliver’s supposed to be a leader, and Harris needs to be a better ambassador of Atlanta’s southside (not that I’m a good ambassador myself). Let’s hope it was a misunderstanding, and if it’s the worst thing that happens, we’re in good shape.

Jrlz rhymes with Charles.

Yeah, I’m not happy about it. But I’m also in grad school at UO now, so I’m going to go ahead and put this down as “not that big of a deal.”

This is no big deal. I’m sure Coach Miles will handle it in an appropriate manner.

I was involved in the same situation at the same bar in Baton Rouge. However, unlike Tolliver, the cops didn’t get there fast enough to stop the fight and some unseen person left me with a broken jaw. Believe me, that incident was the end of my bar-hopping days and propelled me into a good marriage that’s still going strong today.

by Caliguy55 on Mar 8, 2010 11:07 AM CST reply actions

I agree that this isn't a big deal.

The problem is that Miles has shown that he’ll kick players off of the team like it’s a bodily function.

RP got a few chances. Odom got two I think, but there was an O-line guy a couple of years ago that was kicked off the team for getting in a bar fight which seems like what happened here.

Maybe we don’t have all the details on those incidents, but it doesn’t seem like Miles is always consistent with the severity of his punishment. The only thing that seems to be consistent is that punishment is coming.

Kyle Anderson

And really he just picked the wrong time to get into a fight. Several players got in trouble that spring and I think Miles was fed up with all the shenanigans when Anderson got into his scrap.

Football teams are not a democracy

Not all players are created equal. I hate to be the one to be advocating situational ethics, but it’s a hard fact of life that the potential All-SEC wideout gets a longer rope than the walk-on linebacker who doesn’t even appear on the two-deep depth chart. Marginal players should never even sniff trouble because they are imminently replaceable. I want my stars to keep their nose clean as well, but they do get a second chance.

Though Toliver most certainly should be punished. I would not want to be TT today. And if he does get in trouble later on, he should be facing a stiffer penalty given this prior offense.
