That Sinking Feeling

After Today's loss I had a particularly bad feeling in the pit of my soul, a pain I had not felt in a long time. Reading some of the comments on RCR gave me a clue as to what it is that ails me:
October 16, 2009 LSU 0 - Ole Miss 0 (2OT)
October 18, 2009 LSU 3 - Ole Miss 0
November 6, 2009 LSU 3 - Ole Miss 0
November 21, 2009 LSU 23 - Ole Miss 25
January 17, 2010 LSU 71 - Ole Miss 80
January 29, 2010 LSU 63 - Ole Miss 73
February 7, 2010 LSU 101 - Ole Miss 102 (3OT)
March 4, 2010 LSU 59 - Ole Miss 72
March 14, 2010 LSU 3 - Ole Miss 4, LSU 0 - Ole Miss 7
March 17, 2010 LSU 7 - Ole Miss 1, LSU 2 - Ole Miss 1
April 24, 2010 LSU 9 - Ole Miss 11, LSU 8 - Ole Miss 9 (11),
April 25, 2010 LSU 6 - Ole Miss 7
That's 4-10-1 for the year, 0-8 in the big four sports. What a disaster. Billy Cannon, give me strength:
At least we haven't lost to Tulane.

Don’t worry, everybody get’s 15 minutes, theirs was over when they got up off the dogpile.
The disturbance you feel in the force will give way to balance, balance will lead to order and order will lead to Tiger Championships for many moons…
GEAUX TIGERS!!!
If they need to dogpile after a mid-season SEC baseball series
They can have it. We’ll save the dogpiles for super-regionals and national championships.

You're shitting right?
They dogpiled?
Today?
After they didn’t win naught but a ballgame?
This is funny. It’s like the 2003 Western Division CoChamps banner I saw in Dallas before they played in the Cotton. Meanwhile, the SEC champs were playing for the title in NOLA.
Ole Miss is almost as pathetic as Miss St. And that’s saying something.
Um, that is a dig at Miss St.
The cowbells have more class in their pinky toe than Ole Miss could ever hope to have.
Really?
I’m from MS and that hasn’t been my experience. I grew up a state fan.

Clearly it did
Since your team celebrated for…what again exactly? Winning three conference games in a row? This is a dogpile-worthy achievement for Ole Miss? I thought they were a top-25 program?

To make up ground, but definitely removed any margin for error.
Don’t forget, the NCAA would rather give schools like LSU the top 8 seeds anyway because they know the games will sell out.

idk if that's as true as it once was
Rebs pulled 10K+ in a weekend where half of mississippi got hit by a tornado, and there are now a few 10K+ parks in the SEC.
An Oxford Super, Lord help me.
Managing Editor/Chief Lackey-And The Valley Shook
Even if the webels get a Super, no way would we get sent to Oxford
And what’s with all this Chicken Little crap anyway? It’s one weekend where we lost three games by a RCH each, in highly unusual conditions where a popup to deep short had a 50/50 chance of leaving the park. Sometimes teams lose ball games. So Ole Miss hit the ball well this weekend; it’s not the end of the world.
A couple of series sweeps, or a win in the SEC tourney, and we’re still a top 8 seed.
Don't Panic.
by 4.0 Point Stance on Apr 26, 2010 10:24 AM CDT up reply actions
Not Chicken Little
LSU s a borderline Supers team, and getting swept doesn’t help. This means for LSU to get a Super, the NCAA would be given the SEC three of them (assuming Arkansas and Florida host Supers).

This isn’t the "sky is falling", it is more like "well, it looks like our road to Omaha is going to be tougher than I’d like"
Fair enough. But being a top 8 seed isn’t all it’s cracked up to be – at least once we’ve lost out on the top 8 designation and still hosted a Super because of an upset. And (although this part should be whispered) I never really expected this year’s team to repeat anyway. In fact, before this weekend I thought the ’10 Tigers were overachieving. This as opposed to last year, when I thought the MNC was our birthright.
Don't Panic.

I pretty much agree
Last year, I felt the standrad was national title or bust. This year, if we make Omaha, I’m thrilled. Also, let’s not minimize the injury situation right now. Hey, we’re not as good as last year, but last year’s team was awesome. This team is “just” very good.

OMAHA
A law school buddy of mine pointed this out to me about 30 seconds after the game on Sunday. In my misery, I reminded him why they call it OMAHA. Ole Miss Ain’t Here Again. Of course, with Ranaudo giving up 9 hits in the first five minutes of the game, we may not be going either so it didn’t really make me feel any better.
Ole Miss At Home Again
That one is at least grammatically correct.

You really need to ask yourself
If sweeping a mid-season conference series deserves the kind of celebration every other major program reserves for either A)clinching a championship of some kind of B) clinching a birth in Omaha. If you really believe beating LSU equates to one of those things, then clearly what I said was correct. We just made your season, and I’m genuinely happy we were able to do it.

Little brother is missing the point
Beating your big brother (and thanks for that compliment — good to know you guys see us that way)in the drive way doesn’t get you a championship.
by Billy Gomila on Apr 27, 2010 10:54 AM CDT up reply actions
Big Bro gets beat up in the driveway
and he is still . . . beat up. Problem is it hurts even more because it’s some little twerp-ass school that hasn’t done anything except win more SEC baseball games than any other school in the conference in the past 8 years. No, we haven’t been to Omaha in most of our lifetimes. No, we haven’t won umpteen national championships. That’s why it feels so good to kick your ass in the driveway.
Eschew obfuscation.
Let me tell you...
… winning lots of games is fun. It’s not like we didn’t have a 26 game winning streak two years ago. And it was awesome. So I hear ya – I’m sure you’ve enjoyed all of OM’s wins. But it ain’t nothing like winning in Omaha.
I’ll happily take the shiner now if it gets the team on track for another trip to the Blat. You kicked our asses this weekend. Congrats. Don’t worry, we’ll get you back. Hopefully once Trey Watkins is back in the lineup.

I have no doubt you'll get us back...
and it will probably be in Hoover. I have no illusions, er…few illusions on that score. LSU has a great team and there is no other team I’d rather see win a national championship [excepting only my Rebels]. And I don’t give a crap about the fact that LSU losing to Florida this weekend would likely improve OM’s standing in the SEC West – I’ll still be cheering for the Tigers this weekend. But not for Arkansas…hell, I won’t even visit their site.
I’ll bring the bourbon.
Eschew obfuscation.
Sounds like a plan
I honestly would like Ole Miss to make Omaha once. It’s always good for the SEC to have yet another datapoint in our We Our Absolutely Dominant argument. And Pomeranz is a hell of a pitcher.

See and you're still mistaken
We don’t care that we lost to little brother (official ATVS name for Ole Miss now?), we care that we lost period. It was an SEC series against a Top 25 opponent, and the sweep may wind up having a major impact on our ability to win another championship.
This:
hasn’t done anything except win more SEC baseball games than any other school in the conference in the past 8 years
Is what we find so funny. We readily acknowledge that Ole MIss is a top-25 baseball program. Despite this, apparently beating us is the equivalent to winning the national championship.
It’s just bizarre to me, because in your shoes I would be enraged that my team dogpiled after winning a midseason SEC series. My god are their (and your) expectations really that low?
by Billy Gomila on Apr 27, 2010 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions
“little brother (official ATVS name for Ole Miss now?)”
Seconded.
“My god are their (and your) expectations really that low?”
Right. If UNO beats us tonight, they deserve to dogpile – they’re a terrible team headed to D-3 and who plays third fiddle to LSU in the state, even in their own city. The LSU game and the Tulane game are UNO’s version of Omaha.
But the Rebs? Ole Miss should get excited at beating us, even wave around some brooms for the sweep. But dogpile?

What celebration?
A group of 20 year old kids just beat the #5 team in the nation for the third straight game on a walk-off hit in a suspense filled come from behind game. They were excited. they met on the field jumped up and high fived. A few went to the ground. two seconds later it was over. I was there. Dont try to make it sound like it was a “yankees win world series” dogpile. It wasnt. the fans cheered and clapped. whats wrong with that? sour grapes perhaps??
feel free to check it out then.
like I said. It lasted about 2 seconds, a few players went down. 2 seconds later they were all back on their feet high fiving. More than anything I think they mauled Kevin Mort after the game winning hit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax3Kt__2gr8
This is a dogpile.
Players go to the ground
And others “pile” on them. Looks like a dog pile to me.
It’s not like there’s anything wrong with dog piles in general, some of us think they’re reserved for more important occasions.

That was educational. I was not in Oxford and turned off the TV as soon as Hightower crossed the plate. That was not even an attempted dogpile. I don’t think the friendly guys over here know any more about dogpiling than they do about baseball.

You mean...
…. the SEC made a decision which benefits Alabama at the expense of other schools? You cannot be serious!
As one of the schools on the geographical edges of the SEC footprint, LSU is pretty used to being screwed by the location of the various SEC tournaments. We don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of ever being the “host” school.

A alternating host site would be fun.
You could do various minor league parks around the South. The Redbirds stadium in Memphis would be a good location. Louisville Slugger Field in Kentucky is another (though ironic since we don’t use wooden bats). It would allow fans to travel and take in different historically important places for baseball.
