Although LSU's rank fell from 23rd last year to 28th this year,
LSU’s APR rose from 960 to 965, which is a remarkable improvement.
Rutgers’ remarkable 992 is a new FBS record.
Ole Miss is still stupid.

Texas
I really wish these rankings would shut Texas fans up about academics being important. Their football team is middle of the pack in the APR, so it’s not THAT important to them. And seeing Miami in the top ten is just shocking given their history. Talk about changing the culture.

Their APR is low ...
b/c UT is sooooooooooooooo hard.
Miami
Being a private school, is much more difficult than people think. They only let the dumb ones in to play football.

these ARE the football programs they're talking about
and it’s those dumb Miami players getting the high ranking.

Ah
That might explain the drop-off since their glory days.

What do these rankings have to do with academic standards of the university?
These rankings are about making sure Athlete’s get an passing grade in Bowling.
"Student-athletes"
While I think this term is a bit of a joke, we get constant lip service about the education these kids receive. This is a rough estimate of what schools are actually fulfilling that obligation. If we’re going to prattle on about the “free education” these kids are getting, I’d like to see them actually get that education.

Exactly
by the way, how do you pronounce your name.
I like to say “Po-zay-ur”, but it might be “po-shore” or “po-zure”, or maybe just “poser”. Any official pronunciation?

I agree with you on that.
I just don’t see how one school’s ranking in the APR’s is any indication of how prestigeous their academics are.
Maybe I’m missing what Texas’ gripe is about, but I don’t think their APR ranking is any indication of their current stance. Either way, they are full of it. This thing is about money first and foremost.
Any school talking about their academics in a football discussion
Is compensating. They’d trade the good grades for a national championship in a heartbeat.

maybe so,
but it’s important that our players are getting an education here.
As I’ve said time and time again, we owe it to these players that they leave LSU and return to their communities as educated people, even if they are not pro athletes. Great academics is also something that can give LSU an edge over other schools in recruiting. A lot of mommas want to see their boys get an education.

Oh I'm not minimizing that
Just saying that if a team’s comeback is “oh yeah, well our team’s smarter!” (the favorite comeback of the Tulane fan) they’re full of it.
