Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Shea Dixon from Tiger Sports Digest just reported that West Monroe athlete Paul Turner has committed to LSU. Turner is 5'11, 185.

Coming in to the season, it was unknown whether or not Turner would be LSU quality. A highly popular player within the state, Turner dominated in the Dome last season. At the recent LSU camp, Turner impressed coaches, running in the low 4.4s and impressing in WR drills. Turner's offer is as an ATH, so where he plays will still be up in the air, but the kid is definitely a versatile athlete sure to be shooting up the rankings.

Positions om WR/athlete recruits

We are possibly getting a bit overloaded at the WR spot so I’m curious who is most likely to move to defense. Kadron Boone, Armond Williams, Fobbs, Wright, Tharold Simon, Jarvis Landry Alonzo Lewis, Paul Turner, and hopefully Odell Beckham.

Just ocurred to me

This is Sylve’s spot. With his injury concerns and being a bama commit, Turner is the perfect replacement as a speedster. Versatile, Intelligent, and outstanding speed. Good fit with the team.

Turner is a great fit

I’m glad he ended up in this class. I love having versatile athletes.

As far as your earlier question: our WR depth chart is woefully thin after Rueben Randle. That’s why we’ve seen so many people committed at that position.

However, I do agree that there will be some move to defense. I think Jarrett Fobbs will be a corner at LSU, and I’m convinced his chance at WR is one of those “Shep at QB” shots… Boone and Williams are WR all the way. James Wright is a WR. Simon could go either way (from talks) but seems like WR is in his future. Landry is a WR, but I think he COULD play defense if necessary. Lewis is a WR. Turner is versatile and kind of a wait and see guy. Beckham is similar to Turner.

So that leaves us with this in 2011:

Tolliver – RSJR.
Randle – Jr.
Shep – Jr.
Boone – So. (or RSFr.)
Williams – So. (likely RSFr.)
Wright – So. (or RSFr.)
Simon – So. (or RSFr.)
Fobbs – So. (or RSFr.)
Landry – Fr.
Lewis – Fr.
Turner – Fr.
Beckham – Fr.

That’s 12 guys that can play WR, and assuming 1 or 2 get moved, 10 deep at the position, with a ton of young talent. I don’t think that’s an entirely unreasonable number.
