Tigers coach Paul Mainieri said Wednesday that sophomore Jordan Rittiner will miss the 2011 season after undergoing elbow reconstruction (Tommy John) surgery this week. Rittiner (4-4, 4.37 ERA in 2010) is the third LSU pitcher who has had the Tommy John procedure since the end of the season. Juniors Joey Bourgeois and Chris Matulis also had the surgery, which generally requires a year of recovery and rehabilitation. Matulis (5-3, 5.33) has transferred to Central Florida, ending a promising but unfulfilled LSU career after two seasons. Bourgeois (4-1, 6.68) and Rittiner will stay at LSU but neither will pitch in 2011. That leaves Mainieri’s current roster with six returning pitchers who logged innings, only three with 40 innings or more last season.
