Final pregame thought
Come out strong, get out in front early. LSU should be able to wear UNC down anyway with this many guys out, and the faster they’re on their heels the faster that happens.
Play well. I don’t care about the score. Play well.
It's Saturday night
in “Death Valley II” , (AKA The Georgia Dome) and here come our LSU Fighting Tigers!!!
Crowton being conservative
was a huge problem with the offense last year.

I partially agree
but I think getting cute with the offense, trying to throw in random formations to be confusing is a much bigger issue.
Run for 3, Run for 3, WR flat isn’t a bad series to me, better than throwing in a 5WR set with all deep on 3rd and 3 or 4
OL looked strong up front
Shep has to catch that. Not a great throw, but plenty good enough to be caught and keep the drive going.
gotta admit
I like the murphy story line and I liked his runs two years ago and last year (pre injury). maybe I was prejudiced against ridley because NCAA 09 said he was an FB but the coaching staff seems to trust him thus far and I haven’t been disappointed
Oh come on!

over/under
on shep running the ball today?
I actually think he won’t touch a sweep/end around because a depleted UNC means CLM won’t want to show all his cards. Remember, shep didn’t see the field during the UW game last year

nobody respects Yates or this offense
I’m glad we have herb/musberger because they are kind of the espn/abc A-Team but some stuff they say is straight dumb
After 1 quarter
Seeing some things I like (JJ maturity; run defense) and some I don’t like (defense too loose on passes). Overall, I am pleased
plays & possession
Through 1Q, they’ve run 3 more plays, but they’ve had the ball over nine minutes. Not cool. Despite the fact that they got the ball first, the two turnovers should have had more of an impact.
incompletions shorten ToP
so it’s not totally accurate this quickly. and our second drive after the fumble was pretty quick.
wtf that was a legit tackle he was committed and couldn’t pull back, not a dirty tackle at all.
the hype videos
make me excited about mo claiborne but I’ve seen three plays so far I think he could have done better. lined up too deep (unless that was a coaching call) and two missed tackles
come out agressive
get 2 personal fouls on the same drive
womp womp wompppppp

Not a great start to this game...
Offensive not clicking yet. Defense just got bled (even with the porous/weak/stupid late hit out of bounds bullshit).
UNC has talent. Who cares if it’s young. Young and reckless and getting it done for them right now.
UNC
seems to have calmed down a bit. We need to do the same
Ridley
Looks amazing so far btw. You know for some good news
Bengal checking in
Got the little one to bed and already annoyed with Crowton/Miles playcalling.
#letGonzalescalltheplays
not so negative
that was well played by them and if our DB hadn’t been dragged for 5 yards that wouldn’t have looked so ugly
maybe it's because
claiborne has missed several tackles so far
never said this before
but Jai Eugene made a fine play to take away the intended receiver and stop that third down play from happening. Yates couldn’t throw because Eugene read the play and took away the receiver. Eugene saved us 4 points…but I still feel apprehensive when he’s on the field.
Only judging by the score since I can’t watch but looks as if we are getting extremely outcoached. Is that a good analysis so far? There is no way we aren’t the more talented team tonight.

the better you are
the more you force them to fail. if everyone succeeded on offense this would be the Big XII
I love it when
the D line is as big a threat every play as the LB corps might be when a blitz is dialed. it’s a 100% chance you might get hit vs.

The real issue was Miles/Crowton telling him not to take chances last year plus no pass protection
JJ
On both of JJ’s TD passes he stood up and took a lick as he delivered. The INT not withstanding (I think he was trying to go out of bounds, but was under too much duress), maybe the light bulb is on…maybe.
He has a TD to Shep and a TD to Randle
unless you’re saying he didn’t get hit on the pass to Randle. (I can’t remember if he did or not on that pass)
No both
The first throw to Shepard actually had quite the degree of difficulty because he couldn’t really bring his arm with it. Coples (who is playing a heck of a game btw) was right in his face.
Peterson has 244 return yards...not a record
Most Return Yards Game – 277 – Antonio Perkins, Oklahoma (LAWTON) (FBS) vs. UCLA, Sept. 20, 2003. Needs only 34 more for new record.

St. Louis vegetarian blog
ok legitimate question about JJ
before this season my favorite JJ pass was the licking he took against Georgia on a pass to Randle in the 3rd quarter. I have seen him make some good passes so far and stay in to take a hit this game. It seems kind of like he’s taken a lot of these last-second shots to deliver these throws. Do you guys think he’s holding on too long and barely getting it off in tiem to our excellent WR corps or do you think he’s holding on for a while, throwing it, and getting lucky?
I can’t figure out if I think the hits he’s taking combined with the throws he’s making are super impressive (THEY ARE) or are actually warning signs of something to come
The issue last year was the offensive line, not JJ
He’s going to be fine this year if the OL gives him decent protection
bit of both
in my opinion but OL was bad last year
No, no
I totally agree, our OL hindered our ability last year. what I meant was more of a question to the guys who watch QB play harder than I do. If he holds it too long and is getting lucky then I can understand that. Should I be optimistic? I love when he holds it and makes the necessary play and takes the hit, but I don’t want to see him holding it too long and taking the hit because he can’t find the open receiver. that’s my worry
I believe
he is showing maturity standing in, and the coaches have loosened the tethers on him since he has shown such improvement, not in technique, but in eperience.
Is our return game that good?
Or UNC’s coverage that bad?

For serious. We totally had that one earlier
but they didn’t check it and we didn’t challenge. I think it was end of the first quarter so maybe a little early to blow a TO/Challenge but it was obvious
The funniest was in 2007
when both Kelvin Sheppard and Perrilloux were both wearing 11.
I swear I heard Perrilloux credited with a half dozen special teams tackles that season.
fumbles & video
I thought Ridley did fumble. I thought Murphy’s elbow was down before the ball came out. I thought Miles should have called time out to let the refs review. Crap!
I don't feel bad for him.
at all.
maybe next week when we don’t play him I’ll feel bad for poor field position but right now I don’t give a single shit if they get a bad bounce and are stuck at the one. Geaux Tigers.

Unreal
Why are we not throwing any more. its the third not the fourth we don’t need to run clock
Something else I've noticed
It hasn’t hurt a lot but at times tackling hasn’t been all that great. Defense has just been flying to the ball so much it hasn’t mattered.
They're..
still not respecting the TE or the intermediate game. Keep tearing their asses up in the intermediate.

Georgia Dome
This is a lot like the last time we played in the Georgia Dome. We got a commanding lead in the first half, leading to a nearly unwatchable second half in which the commentators talk about nonsense like Beyonce.
But can we stop sending our QB to run into their defense? Let the back up do that.
I dunno. I got so drunk during the 1st half
of the GA Tech game that I didn’t even realize the 2nd half was unwatchable. I read on ATVS that Jefferson wasn’t great in that game and I was forced to reconsider my drunk opinion from the previous game.
Discussion this week
1. Special teams victory for LSU
2. Decimated UNC team outplayed LSU everywhere else.
No.
I was at the UW game last year. Their yardage looked great and all and everyone said they outplayed us but they didn’t. They never had the ball in the 4th quarter with a chance to tie it. Every possession was to draw within KOS-to-tie range.
We haven’t been outplayed. We have hit a slump after a great stretch. Our slump stretched into the D, we hit an unfortunate flag, and they think it’s now a game. It’s not a game. We still win, just watch.
Or
Maybe we could have our starting QB put together a scoring drive to ice this game.
BTW, great time for an onside kick.
blocking too
Would Ridley like to block a man when JJ scrambles?
aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnddddd
its official we are sleepwalking
every nfl team ever
goes for half the yards on 3rd and long. If you go for the full amount or the deep pass (when you don’t need it) you tend to get hurt. The common, conservative play is to go for half the yards you need and either your WR makes the play or you punt. Punting isn’t anathema to college football
when is crowton going to figure out we can't
run a 5 yard play on 3rd and 10
sleepwalking into a win
As ugly as the offense has gotten, a defensive stop here might allow us to run out the clock.
People will talk about the exchange fumbles
but that’s UNC’s first team. It’s not like their scout team QB can’t take a snap, our pressure is legitimately getting to them

That just sucks
we should have had that easily wrapped up. waaaay too reminiscent of last year and all the problems we had. have to lay this at the feet of the coaching staff. I’ve supported Miles for a long time but i don’t think i can do it anymore. we are consistently incapable of finishing. Defense on the field way too long, no rhythm on offense, yada yada yada, we’ve all been saying it for a year. this is nothing new.

I don't think so.
Two long pass plays accounted for a plurality of their game. No excuse for those plays, but just two plays. Their first TD came from a drive kept alive by two personal fouls, one of which was on the punt (i.e. the defense got the stop). What they kept killing us with was the plays to the tight end. We had nothing on that. Chavis made a great call on the blitz that forced a fumble late in the game.
Yeah, I live Chavis a solid C for this game.

The memes
I suppose it’s already chiseled in stone that we lucked our way to a win we didn’t deserve because we pissed away a lead to a handicapped team who would have won if it hadn’t been for an uncalled pass interference on the last play. But that’s woulda coulda shoulda talk.
Bottom line, we won. And despite what Lou Holtz just said, UNC would trade places with us. Hell, the guys at Red Cup Rebellion wish they could be Tigers all the time, but they just don’t say it. Today they might actually admit they’d like to be suffering through the outcome of our game.
Exactly
A lot of things had to go precisely wrong to make the game that close. LSU looked great for a half of football. They looked like shit for another half. If we can play like the first half team we will be in fine shape this year.

Won't Get Fooled Again
More talent, same bad coaching. Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, hell maybe even Miss St could beat us this year. I’ll watch and i’ll scream at Croton and Miles and maybe LSU will have a quarterback and a new staff by next year. You don’t throw for 4 yards on a 3rd and 6. You don’t pull the blitz when your backfield leaks like a sieve. You don’t put in third string players at the start of the 3rd quarter, i don’t care how big a lead you have. But hell i was there when Charlie Mac was there and he was even worse.
UNC Game
Conservative game plans are for second rate teams. We have a coaching staff who follows a conservative game plan. Therefore, we have a second rate coaching staff. No excuses. Run-run-pass, run-run-pass… Everyone in the stadium knows what we are going to do before it happens. This will be a very long season if something doesn’t change. As always, our great players do their best. With the right direction, they could dominate. Kudos to them for fighting hard despite a lousy game plan and predictable play calling. The onside kick call was absurd. Contact before the ball goes ten yards is illegal. At the end of the day, we are 1and 0. Bring on the power house, Vandy!
The stuff I liked (aside from the final score)
1) I already mentioned JJ throwing TD passes in the nick of time before a big hit. Upperclassman play.
2) Our quick throws to the tight end. We got good yardage twice or thrice on that.
3) Sacks. Last year was a lean year. We had a few good ones.
4) On that note, Nevis was an animal. There are few things I love more than an LSU DT who can control a game. Lavalais. Dorsey. Can Nevis possibly play like he did in the first half (not that his second half sucked) repeatedly?
5) Ruben Randle. Get him the ball more.
6) Peterson deserves his own post.
7) Even the non-Peterson return game was good.
TP is reporting Blackwell has a broken ankle,
so, we’re going to have lots of drives killed by T-Bob’s holding penalties.
