Review of UNC game and outlook for season
I was at the UNC game and left with a migraine headache. College Football is perhaps the most emotionally charged game in our country. One play can make all the difference. Brute strength can be mustered by those with less skill and overcome obstacles. And no-one, even a coach knows what is going to happen until that player is tested. Superstars rise from nowhere and heros fall every week. Only in College Football. I love it!!!
The emotional drain of the 2nd half, left me and a few hundred thousand other faithful LSU followers with a pit in their stomach. Yet, I kept telling myself and my friend at the game, we have so many Freshman playing. I know UNC was depleted, but we were also playing with untested kids. Lots of them. Kids who will only get better.
So, if the old saying is true that a team improves the most from Game 1 to Game 2, LSU will correct the mistakes they had and look spectacular next week against Vandy.
As for the post you put up by one of your readers saying it looked like the same team we had last year, he needs to watch the replay of the game. The stats are hauntingly familiar. But the stats for this game were more a reflection of the mistakes the team made than a lack of execution. I don't know how many fumbles we had last year, but we I can't recall that many in a single game. With just a few of these mistakes corrected, the stat sheet looks dramatically different than last year.
Jefferson was better, but still needs to improve. The D-Line was very active. We had several blitz packages in our first game with numerous new players and Freshman. Last year, we did not look nearly as lively in that department even at the peak of our performance. The D-Line and Linebacker combination will only get better. The D-Backs have to improve. We know they have speed and can play. But, if they make a wrong step, and get out of position, they are going to get burned. And, burned they got. I think Chavis will get that fixed and we will see less in the way of problems as glaring as we saw on Saturday. Our special teams were truly special. And, no-one expects Josh Jasper to repeat his two errors. He is one of best we have had over the years.
As for all of the fans that are belly aching and calling for the heads of Les Miles and Gary Crowton, I think we all need to simmer down. Crowton called a better game, particularly in the first half, on Saturday than he did in any game last year, in my opinion. He seems to have adjusted to the talent he has. As for Coach Miles, he is a gentleman, that supports his players and I like his personality. I expect to be 5 - 0 headed into FL with a good chance of winning there as well. We have a very young, but very talented team. There will be some mistakes, especially early on. But, if they are teachable and coachable, they will improve and make us all proud in the end.
As for me, I will support the team and Head Coach as long as I am here to cheer them on! I was a student at LSU and still remember walking beneath the towering oaks. I remember, the smell of game day, and the players following the band down the hill on the Tiger walk, and feeling of my hair standing up on the back of my neck. I get that same feeling today, when I go back. I remember the optimism in my spirit when the announcer calls out "it's Saturday night in Tiger Stadium." Oh, what a fine thing it is. I was there for the earthquake game, and the Auburn fire game. I remember when winning the SEC was all we played for; when national titles were not on our mind. I remember when simply being ranked made us feel good and proud. I know we have established what some want to call a dynasty, and if Miles can get back to the BCS title game win or lose, he will confirm that sentiment. But, if he doesn't, all I ask is that we play with pride, and play hard. All I ask is that we play like Tigers! And, if you don't know that means, you really don't deserve to call yourself a fan of LSU at all. Amen.

I agree with you all the way. We should give this young team time and also CLM some time too. He knows he has to a better job coaching than he did last year as likely the staff (Crowton) does too. One game doesn’t make the year. Hopefully we blow out Vandy and look good doing it.
