Sometimes, you're watching Star Wars and the Rebel Alliance wins.  Other times, you're watching The Empire Strikes Back, and the Empire wins, Han gets captured, and Luke gets his hand cut off.  Last night was a middle of the trilogy kind of night. 

On the one hand, I am pleased that the SEC once again asserted its dominance of the college football landscape.  Five straight years and running, and the trophies now reside on four different campuses.  The SEC's dominance is not just one or two teams propping up the rest of the conference.  We take turns lording over the college football world.

Still, my hatred of Auburn prevents me from lifting up my voice in an obnoxious "SEC!" chant.  OK, maybe if I'm surrounded by Big Ten fans.  I'm not happy Auburn won because I don't like Auburn, but I do take some small comfort in the SEC once again showing that it is the SEC, and you're not.  It is bad enough Arkansas snapped the SEC winning streak over Ohio St. in bowl games.  Losing a title game on top of that?  People might say we're slipping.

There will come a time to start mocking Auburn fans for this, calling them cheaters and whatnot.  But it's bad form the day after they've won the title.  No matter what happens in the future, the NCAA can't erase memories.  We saw it, it happened.  Auburn won the title.  This is their day to celebrate.  It's time for me to swallow hard and say...

Congratulations.  Keep rolling Toomer's Corner until there's not a roll of toilet paper left in town.  It's been a long time, but you are the champions of college football again.  Well done.  You deserve this celebration, so go out and enjoy it, Auburn fans.  And because my hypocrisy knows no bounds...
