Awesomeness embodied!
Much man-love to Coach Miles!
Stability is worth a ton, this is a good day for us. Wait...
is Crowton staying with him? Oh, shit.

LSU announces Les Miles will remain as coach; don’t know yet if he was offered the Michigan job
My best guess
Les meets with Dave Brandon, informs him of what it will take to get him to Michigan (which involves more than money — there’s still the Lloyd Carr/control issue). Brandon takes that knowledge back to Ann Arbor and consults the other power brokers, and Michigan moves on.
So technically, Miles was never “offered” the job. His interest was merely gauged.

Yes...
and neither will ever say if an offer was made. That way those that want to excuse it from either side can do so.
MI knew they’d have a coach today for the team meeting and it’s Brady Hoke – the guy that LC and Coleman wanted all along and a darn good choice for MI. Even if Les had accepted initial terms I think a poison pill would have been added before the contract could be signed.
Everyone is better off the way it ended.
Miles played this pretty well for LSU
Think about the hype LSU gained between the secret Cotton bowl and now. If not for the UM rumors LSU would be off the news radar. Instead, the day of the NC game, he meets with UM and keeps LSU on the crawler during the game. And the big finale, he gets top news billing on ESPN over the AU championship news. Good stuff.
I was pissed when Saban announced he was going to gO’bama on the day LSU was lining up in the Dome against ND, because he stole our thunder while recruits tuned in. Miles just did the same thing…but now I like it!

The stupendously consistent
accuracy of ESPN reporting about Miles/LSU/Michigan continues.
Now he can concentrate on winning that second MNC, first and foremost by trying to make whatever changes, personnel or otherwise, that are needed to make sure that offense consistently performs at a level approximate to the talent on the roster.
YES YES YES YES YES!!!!

So true.
All he’s done is win since he got here. And he wins in an entertaining way to boot!

Glad he's staying but o be perfectly honest I could
do with about half the “entertainment”.
So does my delusional optimism
from the game thread get some vindication now? Michigan can’t match us anymore. Not in pay, not in control, not in budget for assistants, not in recruiting, nothing. We are L S U and that makes us better than Michigan. It just does.
The good news for Michigan....
… is that mgoblog can go back to calling Miles an unethical cheat for oversigning. In the past week, that blog has called Miles a scumbag, our AD a liar, and this blog as snarky (ok, they’ve got a point there).
They can retreat now to their moral high ground and continue to look their noses down at us poor, ignorant, cheating rednecks.

Great day!
Listening to Cowherd rake LSU fans across the coals, and begrudgingly agreeing with him, I’m very happy that Les decided to come back. We as fans have an opportunity to NOT be delusional and to be appreciative of our head coach, and learn to live in our moment as we truly NOW are building what can be a long lasting legacy of consistent greatness at LSU, that won’t have to be met with “delusional optimisim”, but “eternal optimism”, and rightfully so.

Yup
Miles is not the idiots our detractors claim, and I’m okay with him staying. But I think Del Rio was a real possibiltiy. He wanted it after 2004 but flaked, regretted it, wanted it again at the end of 2007, and apparently he still wants it. That would’ve been a scary prospect for the rest of the SEC.
Maybe.
I don’t trust NFL coaches. Then again, I don’t trust coaches. With the way this program is trending, consistency is the way to go.
I hear you
I don’t generally trust them either, but that’s mainly because I don’t think they “get it” as far as what makes a successful college coach, but I think Del Rio does. He has local ties, and is widely respected and would be the face of the program needed to mop up in recruiting. He’d have the X’s and O’s of one side of the ball locked down like nothing we’ve seen in a while, and I think LSU would pony up big $$$ to get a big time OC.
Del Rio is one of the ONLY NFL guys I would like to see in here.
I'm still excited
about great seasons ahead at LSU, but I’m not gonna lie and say I think we’re going to get anymore national championships. I think we’ve seen Miles’ ceiling, and I’m going to pencil in at least 2 losses/yr. until proven otherwise. With the way the west is looking these days, I’m not even sure how much we’ll get back to ATL and conference crowns. Sad, I know, but it’s gotten to the point where I expect more than just 11 win seasons. We haven’t had an undefeated one in over 50 years. Auburn’s done it twice recently with two different coaches, Alabama’s done it…….we should be able to do it.
While I disagree abut the ceiling...
… I don’t disagree about the high standards. The perfect season is the hurdle still left uncleared.

Luck
Auburn is no better coached (almost certainly worst at HC level) and less talented (with a couple of tinny exceptions) than LSU. Last season a mediocre LSU team almost beat a fairly dominant national champion Bama in Tuscaloosa. Its foolish to expect but it would be no shock to see LSU go 14-0 (or 11-3 next year). Bottom line the coaching and the talent level is clearly good enough for a perfect season and can happen with a bit of luck.
There is some concern that Les is hardly a spring chicken, and while the one thing he doesn’t seem to lack is energy there is some doubt wether he can sustain his coaching peek beyond 5 or 6 years. Within that time frame though there is no reason to presume perfection is unattainable.
Didn't say we couldn't do it
14-0 in 2011. C’mon, Les!

Neither AU or Bama...
have Florida as the permanent East rival either. LSU has the toughest path of any team in the West year after year. As long as Florida remains the beast of the east, which I expect to continue, we have the toughest road to an undefeated season.

ESPN’s lousy reporting strikes again.

Although now David Lee going to Ole Miss as OC is much bigger news...
I still want a Crowton replacement, and he seemed like a good one.
I agree
But he goes way back with Nutt, so its not a shock.

I was dead wrong on this one
props to Miles for being honest with the players, who said all along he wasn’t leaving. This should earn him some real cred with the fans, although I’m not sure it will. No longer can anyone say he stayed just to win a championship. I’m glad he stayed…a bird in the hand and all that.
As far as Crowton is concerned. I don’t think he’s going anywhere, but I hope I’m wrong again. We scored 40 points in a bowl game, and I don’t see Miles canning someone for that (although he definitely still deserves it).
Happiest Day of my Life as an LSU Fan
I don’t know (nor care) about anyone else, but for me this is the happiest day of my life as an LSU fan. I can’t thank Les Miles enough for deciding to remain at LSU, especially given some of the completely unnecessary grief he’s had to take from some so-called fans. I hope these fans will quit being “so-called” and become “true” LSU fans, which means sticking by our coach and players through thick and thin. Have any of you ever thought about the young men that play football for LSU and the fact that at that age they would love nothing more than fan support and respect, when they’re going through tough periods which are inevitable in the game of football especially when played in the SEC. In these tough periods, the last thing they want is to have the fans (the people they truly play for) turn their backs on them and abandon them despite all the hard work they do during practice and throughout the season to win. Like the article says, now is the time to come together and pledge our support for the coaches and players such that they always feel that intangible something that drives athletes to win even under the worst of circumstances. THANKS COACH MILES AND GEAUX TIGERS!!! I can’t wait until next season.
AMEN

Moffitt
A little off subject but has anyone heard anything about Moffitt potentially leaving to become Tennessee’s strength coach now the Bennie Wylie left for Texas?
?
Doesn’t make alot of sense. He’s a Tenn. native, sure, but he built this S&C from the ground up and has been here since Dinardo. I can’t see him leaving
Managing Editor/Chief Lackey-And The Valley Shook THE LSU Tigers Blog of the Week for 52,136 Weeks in a Row and Counting
Moffitt has a lot of ties here too
Yes, he’s from Tennessee, he attended Tennessee Tech but he has a lot of friends down here. Apart from Tennessee setting some sort of world record for a strength coach salary, I doubt he’d leave LSU.
For what it’s worth for secondhand info, many of my Curtis contacts (Moffitt was my strength coach in high school at John Curtis) say he’s very happy in BR. Maybe when his children go to college he might conside leaving but from all I’ve heard through the grapevine is he loves it at LSU.

Dude, if you've never been to a game in Tiger Stadium....
start saving money for the trip NOW. It’ll be one of the best experiences of your life. Words can’t describe the energy of the place when it’s rocking.
I actually didn’t care for LSU until I attended the school & then the 1st game….. when I walked out of that entry way in the student for the section for the 1st time & heard The band strike up the 1st notes of Tiger Rag, I was hooked FOREVER. It was one of those epiphanous moments where you just know you’ve found “truth,” “love” or something that is just “right.” I get chills every time I think about it…

has anybody heard what concessions LSU made?
I think the consensus was that a raise wasn’t likely but that an extension or some anti-firing safeguards would be put into place. Anybody heard? And if he didn’t use UM’s interest to his economic advantage, then I guess Diogenes can finally stop toting that damn lamp around.
On another note...
The Times-Picayune stated that the owner of The Chimes hoped Miles would go, as he thinks we can do better. Well, I think The Chimes can ‘do better’; I won’t eat there again.
I will, I love that place
regardless of their football views.

F*** this guy!!! This is a Michigan Assistant I guess and coached with Les at Colorado and he sent Les an email on Monday stating: “From one Michigan man to another, go build them back up” "I’m really disappointed he didn’t take the premier job in all of sports." "When you get on a plane with your wife to go talk to a guy like Dave Brandon did, you’re showing respect and you’re showing you’re very interested," "I tried to tell Les to take the job, but obviously he didn’t and I can’t and won’t hide my disappointment." Michigan Assistant I guess and coached with Les at Colorado
Uh, he was Les’ Boss and probably second only to Bo in influencing Les’ coaching style, etc…
TJ McCartney (our 3rd/4th QB) is his grandson.
If BM tried hard to persuade LM to go back to UM and his TEAMMATE and lifelong friend, Dave Brandon (UM’s AD) put on the full court press as it is obvious that he did we should feel EVEN MORE fortunate that LSU still has King Miles reigning.
Don’t hate BM, he was trying to get LM to do what MANY people thought was the right thing for him to do.
Just be glad that Miles is a full grown man who makes his own decision as to what is best for HIS family and be thankful that he considers LSU part of HIS family!

What part of my response to you was a personal attack?
You came of like it was some Grad Assistant that Miles met once or twice back in the day, I was helping you to understand that, at least IMO, this is even more reason to LOVE Les Miles.
As far as McCartney goes, he thought it was the right thing, he gave his opinion. If you are going to hate him what percentage of our own fans do you hate? (hint; it’s probably more than the number of people who still attend Colorado games…)
GEAUX TIGERS!!!
Can't fault McCartney for that
he loves Michigan and thought Miles would be the man for the job. You can, however, fault the man for leaking bogus rumors that he was already gone (which seems pretty likely at this point). I actually think this is good for LSU; it says a lot about how much our national prestige is at this point. The media in general still has a hard on for Mich. but when their own guy turns them down to stay at LSU, I think it makes us look really good.
How awesome are these quotes...
From the Advocate write-up…
“Mark Twain once said, ‘The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated,’” Miles said. “Well, the reports of my departure (from LSU) are greatly exaggerated.”
“My wife and children and myself really love being in Louisiana. This is home to us.”
Can I get some sticky man love!
