GAMETHREAD: LSU @ Arkansas (3GMS)
Arkansas comes into the weekend in about the same shape we are in. After a lackluster non-conf, the Hogs have dropped 2 of 3 in every SEC series (@ Auburn, v. Vandy, @ Bama). They've got a better bullpen than us with a handful of solid relievers. They aren't hitting as well as we are, with no one on the team cracking .350. They have stolen an impressive 60 bases off of 69 attempts.
I'm not sure what lineup changes we'll see this weekend for LSU, though the starting righties on Fri and Sat could see Dozar get the 1B start.
2 of 3 on TV this weekend, with Saturday on ESPNU (possibly hosted by the excellent SEC Thursday night crew) and Sunday is an Arkansas-based Cox Sports Broadcast (i.e. Swoboda) For you GeauxZone folks, Friday and Sunday will be available with live video thanks to a deal with the Arkansas internet folks.
Weather will be overcast and a bit windy, with a decent chance of rain on Sunday.
SEC Slate
Bama @ Vandy
Florida @ Miss. St.
S Car @ Tennessee
Auburn @ UK
UGA @ Ole Miss
Elsewhere in college baseball, there are a pair of Top 25 ACC matchups as UNC travels to FSU and Virginia is at GT. On the west coast, CS-F hosts UC-I in a matchup that I think we are all rooting for the meteor strike in.

I just can't fathom why
maybe, MAYBE, he thinks Ott is still a head case, but Berry was not getting it done. This loss is deflating.

Why not leave Gausman in?
Let him pitch in the 9th and leave him in until he gets into trouble.

I have no trouble with him *putting* Berry in
Berry has been great all year. I have a serious problem with him leaving Berry in, especially since Ott was warm. Once it was obvious that Berry was off, for whatever reason, yank him. This “let him pitch out of trouble so we’ll see what he’s made of” mentality is fine when we’re playing Princeton. Not so much when we’re playing Arkansas.
Don't Panic.

I said it after the UGA series
There’s only one way to break a slump, and it’s not by sitting on the bench
The LSU RECORD HOLDER FOR SAVES WAS NOT PITCHING FOR THE BIGGEST SAVE OF THE YEAR
Thats as clear-cut as it gets. Now, you refuse to play the best closer your school has ever had, and you can bet you’re bottom dollar this is going to effect Berry. So since you won’t play either, you don’t have a closer.
This “that’s baseball” excuse is over. We have lost 8 OF THE LAST 11 SEC SERIES

If I'm not mistaken...
One of Berry’s first pitches almost hit the batter in the head, and then he did actually hit the batter a few pitches later. He never looked the least bit comfortable out there on the mound and even the commentators were saying that he just didn’t look right. I completely blame PM for not taking him out. He should have pulled him after he beamed the first batter. But he left him in and he proceeded by giving up 2 base hits that scored one and left runners on the corners. Then, one of ARK best hitters came to the plate and he pitched like 10 sliders in a row. The batter crushed one foul after the first hanging breaking ball, then he just fouled off the second hanging breaking ball. After that, it was like PM wanted to lose the game. Everyone there and everyone watching knew what was going to happen, he hung another breaking ball and it was crushed for the game winning HR. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I don’t like baseball too much and rarely ever watch it, there is just no other sports around to keep me busy. But I could even tell that after that first pitch almost hit the first batter in the head, that something was wrong with Berry and he needed to get out of there. If I can pick that up as an ignorant fan, why couldn’t our Million $ manager not see it. PM surely has made some very questionable calls so far this year that is certainly not sitting with the fans too well. I’m definitely not saying he needs to go, but he needs to get his act together or we won’t be in Hoover at the end of the year (which is just embarrassing). With the play of baseball as of late and the constant embarrassment that is basketball, football seems like our only hope for major sports. Can’t wait til Fall!!
