2011 NCAA Baseball Selection Wait Thread
Once again, the great baseball caravan watches and waits with their great engines of war and tailgating pointed west, ready to move out as soon as the beacon is lit. Wether it be towards an ice cream factory in central Texas or a forest stream in the Great Northwest, LSU might be the only team from Louisiana heading to the NCAA post season.
I hope...
Make no mistake, LSU is a bubble team with a great resume and I have all confidence the NCAA will select the Tigers, but you never really know until you hear the name called.
Some of our opponents have already punched their tickets. Besides the SEC names you know (UF, Vandy, S Car) and our big non-conf victory (CSF), we've also played 3 teams who won their conference's tournament and auto-bid: Princeton (Ivy), Holy Cross (Patriot League), and Alcorn St. (SWAC). Of the rest of our opponents this year, only Arkansas and Southern Miss are locks for the post season, with UGA, Miss St, Ole Miss, and SELA having precarious bubble resumes. In all, as many as 12 of the 25 teams LSU has played this year may make the post season.
Projections from the various pundits almost universally put us in Texas somewhere. ESPN has us in Houston at Rice(though the Committee would never put us in a regional with Princeton). Baseball America sends us to College Station with the '10 UCLA opponent we never faced: a much improved Kent State. It's worth noting that nobody predicted last year we'd be sent to UCLA, who surprised everyone yesterday by getting another regional in that terrible stadium, so take this all with a grain of salt. SEBaseball has a great breakdown of some of the other teams we are competing with for these bubble spots.
The Selection Show is on ESPN at 11:30 CST. I'll update this post as soon as LSU is selected.

Paul is officially on the hot seat
not making the SEC tourney, I get that. The SEC is deep. But not making a regional. That is not going to fly

Baylor is 2 spots below us in the RPI
It’s upsetting but not surprising. At this point “NCAA selection committee makes irrational, arbitrary decision” is a dog bites man story.
Don't Panic.
