All I know on the Gunner Kiel situation is that there is a 3 p.m. meeting with early enrollees and Kiel is not in attendance, per a source.

I've NEVER been the one
To jump into the QB controversy stuff and “Miles hates Lee” stuff but….you can’t doubt that this is because of what he saw Monday. If not that it’s because of the crap Bobby Hebert was shouting off. It’s all very confusing and frustrating.

I have a hard time believing he saw something Monday
That made Brian Kelly and ND’s shitshow of a QB situation look good. If this happens, this is mama-driven.

Agree.
The kid had some serious stay-close-to-home issues. First Indiana and now this. Hope it works out for him. Last time a highly touted recruit like him kept going back and forth – they ended up being a bust anyway.
Talent can only get you so far. Give me a player who has less talent, but the heart of a champion and the will to succeed.
Keil seems sort of flaky
Not sure if this has anything to do with his brother leaving Indiana earlier in the day. This sort of feels like the Keenan Allen situation where he decommitted from Alabama to play with his half brother at Cal.
I wonder if his brother got an offer to play at Notre Dame
Michael Bonette...
Stated on the radio that Coach Miles had to answer the tough questions that Bobby Hebert was shouting off on national radio. I can’t help but think that his answers…I don’t know. I love this guy as our coach, an I’ve admired the hell out of him all season. This is all just frustrating and the QB situation is even more frustrating.
This can’t be because of the Lee thing? It can’t be!

Plus he could probably pull a Weeden in 5 years if it doesn’t work out.
Don't think he can cut it in the bigs? Brock Bond will be the bigger man and walk walk walk away.

I'm sure Kiel's early enrollment
Had something to do with Patrick Miller not being able to fit in this semester, and having to go to Auburn.
So Kiel screws us 2 ways…what a dick!
by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 16, 2012 6:22 PM CST reply actions
Not Kiel
that did it. Another QB was supposed to graduate in Dec and didn’t, which didn’t free up that scholly for Miller.
But
If we knew ahead of time that Kiel wasn’t going to come here, then wouldn’t that have freed up a scholly of P. Miller to be an Early Enrollee?

And
We stopped recruiting the other QB’s. I know Alford was a longshot, but he recently committed to USM. Now we HAVE to get Liggins and hope for the best
by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 16, 2012 7:33 PM CST up reply actions
yes
but we didn’t know Kiel wasn’t coming until today (still rumors), and Miller’s scholly was from another LSU QB that didn’t graduate on time and now it’s too late and Miller is enrolled at Auburn.
This part is true.

MOVE ON...............moot point to worry
He follows his sad azz brother,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,flaky kid for sure…………see ya! dont let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya…………cant worry about any of it until signing day and all the faxes come int as official, other than that why worry yourself over something we can not control……….

Good luck to him. Have fun throwing to all those mediocre skill players, playing the service academies and having that troll Brian Kelly scream at you all the time. He could be the next Mitch Mustain, you never know. Lets move on.
So if this kid is a no show
we lose on him in the last hour, effectively making us lose out of a beast of an OL too…
Meanwhile, JL looks like Montana in the exhibition game tonight…

This is a comment from a ND student on one of their threads. (He walked over to O’Neil Hall, where Kiel is supposed to be living at ND)
After walking over, I did not see Gunner. However, my friends in ONeill said that Gunner is in fact moving in tomorrow. This was not confirmed by twitter, or facebook, but rather their RA’s, who were told to get the room ready for an incoming student, one Gunner Kiel. BOOM. See ya tomorrow Gunner!
Also, saw this on Dave Berk’s twitter:
Very good source just informed me ND players have been told Kiel to be in class on Tue.

Well this makes a great night even better……..we cost them another recruit (P. Miller)….LOL……almost feel bad for them………but then you remember how their starting QB beat up a guy in a bar…….AND…….they let him play this year.

I hope Gunner helps them sniff a BCS game for the first time in 5 years. Maybe he can even help them from getting blown out of it, losing in a merely respectable fashion.

Latest report from USA Today
From what I have been told, he is no longer coming to LSU," recruiting expert Michael Scarborough of Rivals.com/TigerBait.com said Monday night. “He wants to come to LSU, but his mother (Aleta Kiel) got very emotional Monday and did not want her son to leave. He plans to enroll in classes at Notre Dame on Tuesday.”
“What has been relayed to me is that he wants to come to LSU, but his parents want him at Notre Dame because it is closer to home,” Scarborough said.
If this report is correct, looks like his family switched him at the last second. Maybe the same will happen to Landon…

well, great for him...
a bit depressing for us – given last week…
What happened with Les?
ahh, read the stories
well, the talent level did not look like it was very high – a number of FCS players…and the defense was limited to one blitzer on each play…
"and the defense was limited to one blitzer on each play…"
If those were the rules every week Lee’d have been a four year starter.

I was shocked Kiel committed here in the first place
So I’m not too upset about the loss. It’s like finding a $50 bill on the ground, then picking it up and realizing it’s a fake. You can’t get too mad, because it wasn’t really yours to begin with.
Anyway we can “afford” not to have a QB in this year’s class since we had two last year. This does put a lot of pressure on Miles & co. to get a QB in next year’s class though. Are there any highly touted rising HS senior QBs in Louisiana?
Don't Panic.

I always tell myself to compare down a la at least it's not raining
but that is pretty telling. For my part, I was in BR this past Saturday and I made a trip to campus. It was basically empty. I got a new hat (lost my last one at the Auburn game), a new game day shirt (I tend to be filthy by the time a game is over) and a new sweatshirt. The cathartic effect was real. I got coffee in the Union. I strolled across the quad in the hopes that I might catch the scent of a sweet olive tree confused by the weather. I checked out Mike’s lair. It was a gorgeous day, and I fell in love all over again. Regardless of the ups and downs (and don’t forget that the ups this year far outnumber the downs), there’s still no place I’d rather be on a fall Saturday than Tiger Stadium.

I said this when Collins commited to Bama
If you commit to a school you should be 100% sure that you want to be there, If you are unsure there is no reason to commit to a school only to change your mind a week, month etc, later. I think there should be a early signing period personally so that if you want to you can be done with it. If Kiel wants to go to ND then good luck to him but he should have committed to them originally or at least not waited till the day he was supposed to enroll at another school to “flip”. I know recruiting is a whirlwind and all but someone should have taken control of the situation before it got this far. Just my thoughts.
Geaux Tigers!
On a personal positive note:

Does Gunner owes LSU a scholarship?
I don’t know the numbers but the line of thought is… We had space for 6 EEs, GK being one of them. Since GK is now not coming, I do not believe we have anyone who can fill that spot. So if LSU could sign 25 and had 25 scholarships to offer, plus had 6 EE scholarships open, have we not effectively ‘lost’ a scholarship for this class?
Now it could be we don’t have 25 to give and perhaps there is a way we could count one of the 25 back – I dunno – anyone here that does?
It already sucks to have this kid not just tease us but cost us a premier OT. If he effectively costs us a scholarship too… The Ole Ball Coach was right – kids need to be able to sign at any time during their senior year and have it binding – its best for the universities and other kids who are adversely affected by the decisions of others.
No
Kids hold all of the power at this point in the negotiation, though the power will flip to the schools later on. I don’t get mad if a player gets cut because life is tough sometimes. And I don’t get pissed if a player reneges on a commitment because a verbal isn’t worth the paper its printed on.
He changed his mind. Better for him to figure it out now than a year from now. Good luck at Notre Dame, but he’s now just Tiger Bait.
Fake Pundit. Real Fan.
And The Valley Shook!
I self-indulgently tweet @ATVSPoseur
I take it you are referring to my comment on signing at any time
and I don’t see a problem with it – you can still have meaningless verbals but give the ability for players to sign whenever. Look at the bind LSU is in and the Miller kid – if players could have signed a letter of intent at any time and Miller was willing to but GK was not, I guarantee you Miller would be here and not at Auburn.
Every year good players are put on hold for potentially better players and they are stuck with a choice – commit to somewhere they don’t really want to go or wait, running the risk that if a spot does not open for where they want to go, they may have nowhere to go.
The arbitrary signing date is just bad for all parties involved. By giving the kids an option to sign whenever, everyone knows who is really committed versus who is undecided or merely playing a juvenile game that hurts others.
My prediction regarding LSU QBs for the next five years...
Mettentana will start the next two years, leading us to a national and SEC championship next year before returning for an all-american senior campaign that results in a BCS bowl and a visit to NYC for the Heisman ceremony.
Rivers or Randall will start the following year and be dependable starters leading us to at a BCS bowl.
Then, Z. Lee will figure out that playing minor league baseball sucks and will honor his original commitment and lead us to back to back conference and national titles.

I saw that was really excited about him when we signed here and with OBJ and Shep
bas our (for now) starters we need a good possession receiver. But I hope Jarvis Landry takes a starting spot over Shep to be honest
