SB Nation Officially Opposes SOPA
I'm not going to pretend to be as up to speed about this as I should be, but I do know that the Stop Online Piracy Act is a pretty hot button issue today, and with the mothership here officially out against it, I thought we'd post this as well in a show of solidarity.
The web will be a lot less fun of a place if this law is enacted as is.

Yep
This bill would give a whole new meaning to the ATVS phrase “QB name redacted.”
This bill is similar to the crap one the EU tried to pass
Under the guise of some egalitarian issue but it would only pave the path for net censorship through strong-arming of ISPs.

Just think about this.
Some countries with censored internet. Iran, China, and the United States. Do we seriously belong in that group? What infuriates me even more is this is not a government movement, it’s a movement from the music and movie industry. Last I checked, they don’t run this country, they provide entertainment. I think they should keep their money focused on that and not trying to take away our freedom of speech.
The Sky is not falling
I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA!

No seriously though, SOPA and PIPA can suck it.

i thought the sky wasn't falling chad?
I think SOPA is poorly worded – but giving creators of information copyright and patent protection is a far cry from censorship. And the truth is that a lot of sites on the internet make a lot of money through advertising by allowing users to steal information other people/companies created. We should do something about that.
/rant.
Was so sick of hearing about this yesterday, woke up this morning and saw it here too.
Honestly I'm all for protecting intellectual property rights
but yeah, this law is not really the way to go about doing it.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions
But I do find it interesting that media companies are for the law while the actual producers of content are against it. Which should tell you something.
Oh, and the internet is awesome and historic accident.

I self-indulgently tweet @ATVSPoseur
So are libraries.
I don’t want to get all Lawrence Lessig here but overstrict application of copyrights is a potential Very Bad Thing. Unless, I guess, you’re a Disney shareholder, or William Faulkner’s greatgrandson.
Don't Panic.
