Under Armour All-American Game Thread

LSU Commitments Avery Johnson, Ronnie Feist, Reid Ferguson and Vadal Alexander are playing in the game.

LSU prospect Landon Collins is set to make his announcement in the 4th quarter. I'm expecting good news, but stranger things have happened.

And... go!

off topic, I see Landry Jones is returning for his senior year...

Sooners returning 8 on offense and possibly 8 on defense. Probably will be ranked in top five again and if they don’t pan out like this year, they should at least should light up UT again.

yeah, he did not have a good game against OSU, but he throws the ball really well with good mechanics from what I have seen.

Man, I love JJ and JLee but it has been rough at times. J/K JJ and JLee, well for the most part, get it done one more time.

The GF is defintiely the driving force

and momma don’t like it. Its sad, really. I’ve seen it happen to someone close to me, a young man who had plenty of other, higher quality (imo and most others) options… needless to say, they lasted less than 3 months and he lost part of his athletic career because of her. Sadly the odds are if Collins goes through with this, the same thing is going to happen to him.

by Xanathol on Jan 5, 2012 11:37 PM CST up reply actions

Why would he lose his athletic career because of this?

It ain’t like he followed her to some NAIA school.

It's just crazy to me

that anyone from LA would want to go to BAMA. I mean I know it’s a little ridiculous, but we really do view them as “the dark side” ever since Saban went there. If I was a young player in LA, I’d grow up dying for a shot to play for LSU and beat BAMA.

I know LC had other influences (hot white GF) but he’s not the only one. Devall, Sentimore, Bell, Sylve Lacey, etc… I don’t get it. What does BAMA have to offer that we don’t? We bring home national championships, we send countless players to the NFL…just doesn’t make sense.

Anyone but BAMA…come on man!

by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 5, 2012 10:32 PM CST up reply actions

Didn't say Les isn't good at his job

Just noting that Saban is a fantastic recruiter, and kids want to play for him. He’s going to win some of those battles, just as he does with the occasional Georgia or Florida recruit (the states, not the schools).

by MikeDeTiger on Jan 5, 2012 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

I actually hate seeing the "ever since Saban went there" stuff, bc its simply not true

That hate for Bama goes much, much further back. Most years when we were good, they were the ones in our way ( see Charlie Mac era ) and throughout the years, they ALWAYS make sure you knew about it. The Saban bit is just another log on the fire and the fire is as big as hell.

Devall wants to be a 3-4 OLB… ok, whatever.

I may be wrong, but I thought Sentimore was a boarder-line qualifier?

I don’t recall the deal with Bell and Sylve but I have first hand knowledge that NO ONE thought Lacey would qualify and hence we only made a conditional offer which turned him off iirc… yet he magically makes the grades for Bama – go figure.

Really, LSU doesn’t actually lose out on many but I agree with you – I can’t imagine someone outside of a Tulane / ULL household growing up in Louisiana and not choosing LSU over Bama. Its like joining the Taliban – you just don’t do it.

by Xanathol on Jan 5, 2012 11:50 PM CST up reply actions

Of all the LA kids going to Bama...

Sentimore, turned into nothing at Bama, now heading to Tennessee.

Bell was a whatever prospect, and we have about 6 of him. The difference is, he is Bama’s no. 2 WR. And Kadron Boone is like our 6th.

Sylve, I was never impressed with. He’s a track star that dresses up as a football player. Doubt he’s ever an impact player.

Lacy was/is a good player, but had major, major grade issues that Bama pulled a Dez Bryant/OSU on and made work somehow.

Devall simply fit into their scheme better. I hope he succeeds against everyone but LSU, but when you start looking at how littered with highly recruited guys their LB core is, it will be an uphill battle.

Collins hurts though. He doesn’t have any of the issues of the above. We clearly covet him.

But I don’t think this is over just yet.

I’ll write more in the morning.

Eye right blahgs.

Agree, my hatred for Bama goes back 20 something years

but it has reached all new heights in the past decade. First one of my buddies goes to school there, then Saban, and now my other buddy coaches there (actually interviewd with Larry Porter while he was here, but Porter told him they didn’t have any room for him, and is now with Bama riding the revenge train).

Between those 3 things, my hatred for Crimson Red is at an all time high!

by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 6, 2012 8:11 AM CST up reply actions

Also, from our friendly oversigning buddies
Bama now has 26 verbal commitments; new SEC rule this year say only 25 can be signed. They have no room to back count.

That site kills me.

We all know that there’s no way any of those verbals switch, right? And I’m sure they’ll all qualify too.

Mrs. Collins

Is a good Tiger fan!

Let Landon geaux go chase his girl to bama, he better hope she’s the one.

If she breaks his heart after he broke his momma’s for her it’s gonna suck to be him.

Oh well, we’ll have 3* – turned All Americans playing and continuing the DBU tradition! He’ll be a gump.

Well, let's all remember

No matter the hype, none of these kids (including ours) have done jack squat yet. Off the top of my head, the last two HUGE prospects to bolt our state and spurn LSU were Joe McKnight and Janzen Jackson. Joe McKnight was supposed to the be next Reggie Bush, once-in-a-decade type game changer, etc……and went on to a fumblicious mediocre career at USC. Janzen Jackson……I see him around McNeese sometimes and I want to tell him he got what he deserved for signing with Kiffin…..but I’m pretty sure he could kick my ass.

by MikeDeTiger on Jan 5, 2012 10:32 PM CST reply actions

Sentimore also left for Bama

and the bottom really dropped out for him.

Losing Jackson and McKnight certainly hurts, but losing LC to Bama is the worst!

by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 5, 2012 10:35 PM CST up reply actions

If I may retort, the REALLY important thing to remember is

January 9th, 2012. Nothing else matters right now. I don’t care if we just recruited the love child of Drew Brees and Peyton Manning, Monday is all that matters.

Just sit down, shut up, and cheer. That's your job as a fan.

by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 5, 2012 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly.

It’s all about development. Ask UGA how much recruiting MNCs translate.

Woah

Come guys! I understand the shock that you guys lost a homegrown kid to a rival but this happens all the time. I mean come on you guys seem to forget that you took Jamarcus Russel out of the heart of Mobile. Even if he is following his gf to Bama its still a good choice. Bama has done nothing but throw Safeties straight into starting roles in the NFL. Odds are he will switch. But for real dont act like he is making a bad decision for his career.

by Dumper on Jan 6, 2012 2:23 AM CST reply actions

I don't think the consensus believes he made a BAD decision

There may be a few bitter Tiger fans here and there, but the majority knows both schools are premier programs, but they just happen to be rivals. Some people may be upset about losing one of our own to the dark side, but everyone knows either school would be a great choice.

And LSU has also had more than their fair share of DB’s make it to the pros, not to mention back-to-back Thorpe Awards…just saying

by WhoDatSaintsLSU on Jan 6, 2012 8:19 AM CST up reply actions

Also

Never mind who the kid chose. Its his spotlight and his mom freaking ripped it right out from under him. I can’t believe someone would do that to their child on national television. I mean its one thing for her to disagree but at least let him have his moment and you can talk about it later. I personally think he will switch but god. It certainly shows you what type of person she is. I don’t even understand why she cares. He is a future NFL star. She is getting her house and cars no matter where he goes. Whatever happened to being happy for your kid being successful and get a full ride to two premier programs. I do think he will end up at LSU.

by Dumper on Jan 6, 2012 2:53 AM CST reply actions

Depends on who you believe

Its been also said that mom only showed up because of some false pretenses. I have a hard time believing either family member wanted to be embarrassed like that (and yes Landon looked just as embarrassed about it as his mom did).

Look, I’m all for a kid making his choice, and he should. But let’s not pretend that fans aren’t going to be pissed. I’m sure had he chosen LSU, the Bama recruiting sites would be talking about how “well he really wants to come here but his family’s MAKING him go to LSU.”

This is what recruiting has become. Saw it last year with some other recruitments as well.

Yeah fan overreaction is obnoxious

I still think Landon must’ve mislead his family, though. People don’t react like that to news they are familiar with. They were surprised. And it showed. No one was doing anything. Then his GF starts clapping and going… “Yaayyyyy.” It was all very awkward.

Yeah, and I really want ot encourage people not to rip into the kid too much, regardless

because at the end of the day we don’t really know what went on inside his inner circle. But it was definitely the weirdest commit ceremony I’ve ever seen in 10 years of following this stuff.

Odd.

There is a link at RBR to a sportswriter’s tweet that it was all staged. The mom was acting and is cool with his choice. I was dubious at first, then laughed if it were true. The REC strikes. Now I hope it’s untrue.

Very odd

And keep in mind, his parents might “support” his choice even if they don’t like it. Lord knows my parents haven’t always agreed with all of my decisions but that doesn’t mean they haven’t always been behind me.

Either way, we’ll see how things shake out. I’m tired of talking about it and at a certain point all anybody on the LSU side says will only be called sour grapes anyway.

Based on all the rumors and his GF's own tweets

the “two year decision” is not true and just to save face that he’s only going there bc the GF ( of 2 months… ) decided she is going there. There’s a whole lil spat on Jan 1st where LC tweets his mom was not going to be at the game and the GF tweets ‘I must not mean that much to you’. The GF also tweets that she has known for ~1 month.

All said, it looks like the rumors are most likely true – he’s going there over a girl and that’s why his family is so pissed ( father too, despite Bama boards telling themselves otherwise ) bc they don’t want their son making a decision like this over a girlfriend he’s been with for a couple of months. Like I posted above, I’ve seen a young man mess up like this before and it never, ever goes well.

by Xanathol on Jan 6, 2012 1:16 PM CST up reply actions

Women.

Bobby Bowden left Alabama after only one semester because Ann Estock lured him back to Birmingham.

If LC does flip flop, the best of luck to him.

I knid of touched on this on one of the other threads

I said I think there has to be more to the story of why his mom is so anit Bama. I mean I hate Bama, but it’s still a good school with a great football program. I think his mom knows he is choosing Bama becuase of his gf, and his mom doesn’t like that. So it’s not as much as LSU vs Bama, as it is mom vs girlfirend…in my opinion
