You could hardly ask for a better result than last night's 10-2 win over Louisiana College. Mainieri did indeed start a mostly backup roster, but of the regular starters who played Foster had a good night, going 3 for 5 with a RBI and 3 runs scored. Worryingly, after a bad weekend in the DH spot Didier did not improve much, going 1 for 4 on the night. LSU ran through 7 pitchers, none of whom lasted more than 2 innings, with Bonvillain getting the credit for the win, his first of the year. So what did we learn last night? That our b-team of semi-scholarship athletes can wallop a D3 team. The main goal of warming up the bullpen guys and keeping everyone healthy was easily accomplished, now it's on to Gainesville to face the #1 team in the land.
