It's pretty amazing to think that on a night when even Gausman knew he didn't have his best stuff, LSU can still go out and convincingly beat a highly ranked team, beating Oregon St., 7-1. The usual fantastic defense, combined with a few hits from not the usual suspects (Hello, 2 for 4 Grant Dozar) when the heart of the order in Katz and Rhymes went a combined 1 for 6. LSU spread the 7 runs over 4 innings and kept things loose for Gausman, who had to work through some trouble more than once and ended up going through 129 pitches in 8 innings. Nick Goody had a nice and easy 9th with 2 Ks and no hits or walks.
The best news out of the last two days is that starters Nola and Gausman have combined to pitch 16 of 18 innings, so nearly the entire staff is still available for both tonight and a potential game 4. Even if Eades gets in trouble tonight, LSU still has a great shot at winning the whole thing.
But first, to other business. ULM and Oregon St battle to stay alive, and the Bever fans are most concerned with where the offense went.
