The Tiger defense will face consecutive and progressive challenges in Auburn's spread offense and UGA's potent offense.
LSU's offense was something else tonight, the likes of which we haven't seen in sometime. We are just beginning to see the potential of this offense under Cam Cameron and Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger will not just see the NFL draft but will be a successful Sunday starter.
I say we have our work cut out for us because what UAB found success with tonight will be seen again, and to significant detriment, if LSU doesn't address these grievances. UAB was very successful with the screen and runs up the gut out of the spread. Auburn, with their spread, and UGA, with their extremely, acutely sharp offense will take notice of this.
These things can be corrected but the problem for me is two-fold. It's a problem of execution and of mental focus. One or the other can be fixed and maybe that's the answer. But we've seen evidence of both and it's hard to fix both.
As of this point, I still stand by my prediction of an 11-1 season and SEC Championship appearance. I think the Tigahs lose at UGA in a shootout but win the rest.
LSU can withstand Auburn. Our talent and offense are too much. But UGA will be a shootout. And they will know how to exploit the weaknesses we saw tonight. As Poseur said when it came to Beckham and our offensive success, it's only UAB. Same can be said of our defensive woes and what that entails, it was only UAB.
