Dungy Addresses Louisiana High School Coaches at LSU Clinic

This was something my job afforded me the opportunity to do that I really enjoyed -- the chance to hear Tony Dungy speak at the Louisiana High School coach's convention last week on Campus.

GAMETHREAD: v. Southwestern Louisiana Institute, 6:30pm

There's a lot that needs to be sorted out tonight with #3 Arkansas coming to town this weekend. Adjusting to the shuffling caused by Sciambra's injury isn't going to be easy, but it does give...

Winnfield DE Michael Patterson Commits!

Sonny Shipp tweeted just minutes ago that Patterson gave his pledge. To be honest, I know very little about this kid. Only sports 3 offers to date, but it's early in the process, so that doesn't worry me much. Pretty good size at 6'3, 230. 2-minute highlight take: moves all over the DL, even playing standing up at times. Decent burst. Plays with good strength at the point of attack. Doesn't stand out as being overly explosive/athletic (though he's not a plodder). Plays too high. Pretty good read n' react type of DE... diagnoses plays really quickly and is almost always in position to make the tackle. Staff must really like this kid considering all the big fish still in play, especially on the DL.

LSU tight ends showing excitement about football team's passing game

Been a slow week, and I'm currently working on some things for the spring game/have my nose buried in some research -- here's something to look forward to. I'll predict this much: the tight ends will catch more than 28 passes next season...

LSU freshman centerfielder Chris Sciambra is out for the season but with a prognosis of 100 percent recovery after suffering a frightening neck injury suffered in Sunday's 4-3 victory at Auburn. Sciambra has two fractures in a vertebra in his neck and a concussion after attempting a diving catch on a ball hit into the left center field gap, his father, Jay Sciambra, said. He added there was no damage to the spinal cord or any other neurological issues. The elder Sciambra said his son is resting at his Baton Rouge home and will be in a neck brace for 12 weeks, followed by a stretch of rehabilitation. But he said he feels "unbelievably fortunate" the injury wasn't much worse. "He's the most lucky kid," the elder Scimabra said. "He's in good spirits. We could be having such a different conversation today. The prognosis is for 100 percent recovery."

It's time again for that great program which I still believe might be the best thing to come out of the current SEC/ESPN TV rights deal: SEC Thursday Night Baseball. Tonight is a National Championship rematch with South Carolina, who's recently been proven to be mortal while being swept at Kentucky, hosting #1 Florida, who's hitting numbers are at a level not thought possible in the BBCOR era. The league office has an interesting interview with one of the guys calling tonight's game, Jefferson Pilot OG Dave Neal, hitting every important topic in SEC baseball right now. The game, and all of this year's Thursday Night games, starts at 6:30pm on ESPNU.

Les Miles says the team is improving in practice, which is about the most generic thing he could possibly say. A big note from the above press conference is that Spencer Ware has dropped about 10...
