The LSU community was successful in helping Mo Isom win this award earlier this fall, but Nola faces an uphill climb against S Car Uberpitcher Michael Roth, who's currently running away with almost 70% of the vote. You can vote once a day, through June 11th
Speaking of cool pictures, I thought y'all might enjoy this. Taken on campus today. Mike was in a playful mood.
It's time again for that great program which I still believe might be the best thing to come out of the current SEC/ESPN TV rights deal: SEC Thursday Night Baseball. Tonight is a National Championship rematch with South Carolina, who's recently been proven to be mortal while being swept at Kentucky, hosting #1 Florida, who's hitting numbers are at a level not thought possible in the BBCOR era. The league office has an interesting interview with one of the guys calling tonight's game, Jefferson Pilot OG Dave Neal, hitting every important topic in SEC baseball right now. The game, and all of this year's Thursday Night games, starts at 6:30pm on ESPNU.
No game today, RAIN OUT Here is your lineup that would have been 1. 2B Jones; 2. CF Sciambra; 3. 1B Katz; 4. C Ross; 5. LF Slaid; 6. 3B Hanover; 7. SS Yocom; 8. DH Powell; 9. Sad Greenie is indeed sad again as LSU crushed their early hopes of a turn around with a 5-0 shutout in Turchin Stadium. What a coming out party for Aaron Nola. 8IP 3H 6K in a shutout performance as he kept bringing the heat all night, throwing 78 pitches, 62 for strikes. I think he could have stayed out longer and got the complete game, but Mainieri was just playing it safe with a 5-0 lead in the ninth. Nola will surely get a shot at joining the SEC rotation this weekend as the presumed Monday starter for the weekend's 4 game series. A great hitting night for the Tigers as well, notching the 5 RBI on 12 hits. For all our talk about the Katz, Rhymes, Nola part of the order, it was Hanover, Dozar, Ross who showed up big tonight. Even Sciambra got out of his funk a bit. I would be worried about Foster, though. He had 2 great plays in LF, saving balls at the track, but he's now gone 0-13 at the plate since Saturday and could see himself shuffled out in the long weekend.
"I wanted to personally thank Baton Rouge, LSU, Coach Paul Mainieri and the amazing LSU fans for the tremendous support they showed the cadets and fans from the United States Air Force Academy this past weekend. I had heard that LSU supporters were some of the best in the country, and they certainly did not disappoint. I can honestly say that our team will never forget the unparalleled hospitality they received while visiting your great city and institution. Giving our team the opportunity to play and compete against such talent as Paul Mainieri and the LSU baseball team, in such an unbelievable facility was an experience our players, coaches and fans won't soon forget. Those of us wearing Air Force blue this weekend, in a sea of purple and gold might typically feel a little bit uneasy. However, your fans seemed genuinely appreciative of the cadets at the Air Force Academy and their future service to our great nation. To receive standing ovations during the middle of a Division 1 collegiate baseball game is an experience that is difficult to put into words. Nothing in my 20-year military and coaching career could have prepared me for that response and outpouring of support. While we would have liked to walk out of Alex Box Stadium with a few more W's this weekend, what we did walk away with simply cannot be matched. You all should be very proud to be a part of such a great city and institution. Best of luck to all of you this season, and I think you may find you have a few more fans, who when not rooting for AFA will be pulling for LSU! It was Priceless! Thank You!
