I Don't Believe What I Just Saw
Wow. What a day. In the spirit of ESPN's desire to name every college football weekend, it was "Survival Saturday." After watching the first half of the LSU game, I had mentally dropped them to third (and was contemplating fourth based on Florida) in my personal polls. Then everything went nuts. Oklahoma lost. Texas lost. Florida lost. LSU didn't look good, nor did USC. But, everything having happened, I have to keep LSU No. 1 in my head since USC needed to recover an onside kick to hold on for the win.

AP Rankings
SC was hobbled by bizarre officiating effecting every single drive (no doubt being reviewed today), rain, and some equally strange turnovers against a good but not great Washington team.
It would be nice if there were more Pac10/SEC contests... It does appear the Michigan/Penn State/Notre Dame era is effectively over and pretty much a waste of competitive time for everyone involved.

Agreed
USC-LSU
A few years overdue for sure... two strong programs with great atheletes working under different philosophies going head to head on national TV.
And that's just the cheerleaders.
The football game might be pretty interesting too.

USC-LSU Matchup
But, in LSU's defense, though UW and Tulane are not the same caliber, LSU came back and dominated a second half. USC had a punt blocked with less than two minutes remaining and had to recover an onside kick to finish out the game. That right there is what edges LSU to #1 in the AP. We're not talking a landslide here, LSU is a whopping 2 point favorite. It's just that there were enough voters watching the games to see that LSU handled their opponents decisively in the second half, and damn near every other Top #25 team (besides Southern Florida) didn't. I can understand the ranking.
