Video: Steve Mazzagatti Admits Botched Call Behind UFC Fighter Loss.

17

Mustachioed mixed martial arts (MMA) referee, Steve Mazzagatti (sans mustache), recently admitted that he -- along with the absence of instant replay -- is the reason for Anthony Johnson's loss to Kevin Burns back in 2008. "Rumble" took a clear finger to the eye, but reacted so violently that the poorly positioned Mazzagati thought it was in response to a punch and stopped the fight (see pic here). Johnson and Burns would later run it back and the former would emerge victorious via head kick. No harm, no foul? Wonder if Mazz's MMA mea culpa is the first step in reconciliation with UFCs Dana White.

Pic: Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski can't seem to let go of the past, donning a pair of UFC-branded gloves for his World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 2 main event bout against Anthony Johnson (watch full video highlights here). Perhaps WSOF-branded gloves were left at home along with those pads and cage canvas. Regardless, Arlovski seemingly won't need his old gloves for UFC duty after dropping a unanimous decision to "Rumble," a welterweight not to long ago, in a match up that company president Dana White didn't think was legit in the first place. At least he's got a few souvenirs ... Props: TitoCouture.com

Updating Anthony Johnson's weight story from Kevin Iole's twitter: Just spoke to @glennauthentic manager of @rumblejohnson Said Rumble got ill three hours before weigh-in and UFC doc gave him tons of fluid Further @glennauthentic said @rumblejohnson was 191.5 when he awakened this morning and would have made 186 with no problems if not ill. Then he later clarified No. He was 191.5 this a.m., then he got sick and drank. He never was at 186 and he began to rehydrate way too early. http://twitter.com/#!/kevini

Luke Thomas talks to UFC 142's Anthony Johnson about moving up to middleweight to face Vitor Belfort. Here's Luke's intro from MMA Nation: "I had the chance to speak to 'Rumble' earlier in the week about his impending middleweight debut against Vitor Belfort at UFC 142 this Saturday. What struck me immediately was how much more bright-eyed and alive he seemed at this weight versus his previous appearances at welterweight. When pressed for an explanation on why there seemed to be two completely different Anthony Johnson quietly fired back with a dry and matter of fact of response. 'Trust me,' he said, 'It helps out a lot when you can eat.'" Read the whole thing.
