It's finally official. Derek Edinburgh is now an #LSU Tiger. The big Karr OT went public with his decision after camping in Baton Rouge.

Big boy out of Edna Karr High School in New Orleans. Made an impressive showing at camp this weekend. He's a legit 6'6", so he's got all the size in the world. Not a shocker, this was expected to come for weeks now.
#LSU just picked up a commitment for the Class of 2012. Airline TE John Thomas is now on board as pledge No. 6.

Airline High School TE John Thomas just gave his pledge to Les Miles. Thomas is a big, athletic TE who visited over the course of last weekend. Looks to be a case of a player heading home, talking it over with the folks and pulling the trigger after a great visit. I don't know a ton about him at the moment, but he's a big (6'6, 240) prospect that looks like he could even grow into an offensive lineman.
Two Edgard, La. kids - Dillon Gordon and Ronnie Feist - from different schools commit to #LSU in the same day. Gordon: "We're like brothers"

LSU is now up to 5 commitments for the 2012 class, another fast start for Les Miles and company. Gordon is a big-bodied TE from John Curtis (I know, right?). And Feist is a super-athletic LB from West St. John. The two are best friends. Honestly, I don't know too much about either player, but I'll start doing some digging for future posts.
Here is Torshiro Davis' thoughts on his #LSU commitment. He said they like him at OLB - http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/1045543.html

Davis is an OLB prospect from Woodlawn HS in Baton Rouge. Miles admitted yesterday that he would have liked to reel in another LB prospect in the 2011 class, but the 2012 class is off to a hot start with 2 LB commits already. He boasts offers from Alabama, Auburn and Oklahoma amongst others. Just as Miles puts the 2011 class to bed, it's back to the recruiting grind for 2012.
Covington DT Mickey Johnson committed this morning. News was a little bit of a shocker, and questions loom about whether or not he is accepting a full scholarship or if this is a grey shirt offer. But one thing is for certain, Johnson will be at LSU. Johnson is a squatty, quick, powerful DT. He's definitely got good physical potential, but will need to dedicate himself to achieve his potential. Being a state powerlifting champion, the natural strength is obviously there. I do question his dedication and attitude, but he's also just a kid going up against other kids who lack his pure physical talent and the increased competition at LSU may drive him.
I must admit, this is a major shocker to me. I figured Hill wouldn't wind up in this class, but I am definitely glad he did. Hill makes 20 commitments for LSU. Scholarships are tight, but more on that later.
Game starts tonight at 6p.m. CST on ESPN. There are several LSU recruits playing in the game. I will have a post after the weekend detailing how players of interest looked. But for now, here's a list of the players participating tonight: Committed: La'El Collins Anthony "Freak" Johnson Jarvis Landry Prospects of Interest: Jadeveon Clowney (unlikely) Hasean Clinton-Dix (unlikely) There's a ton of other SEC kids playing in this game, and some guys that LSU recruited heavily. Be sure to check it out, and chime in with your thoughts.
Bit puzzled on this one. This comes just a day or so after the news that Dalton Botts officially switched to Miami. This was an expected move, as many thought he was a back-up option in case Brad Wing didn't get eligible. Many, including myself, thought Botts would go elsewhere freeing up a scholarship for a different position, but Miles and co. obviously felt getting a kicker was important. I don't know much about Hairston as a kicker, and this is by no means a shot on his abilities, but this is a puzzling offer/commitment to say the least.
Worst kept secret in college football, but Mettenberger made it official today. And the angels sing. Can you hear the hallelujah chorus? We need LSUFreek for a Mettenberger in purple wings and gold halo (a la our previous savior who forsook us, Zach Lee). I now expect LSU's offense to go from bottom 4th to no. 1 overall with Mettenberger putting up 5,000 passing yards, 50+ TDs, 0 INTs. What, it happened for Auburn? Update:BayouBengalsInsider.com has a telephone interview with him from this morning up in their free section.
