Chancellor Martin on the value of a great football program, even if you didn't win the BCSNCG

First, there is the national exposure that comes with a successful football season. During this season, nearly all of LSU’s games were nationally televised, including the Southeastern Conference championship game and the national championship game. That means that week after week, people across the nation got a chance to see what LSU is about. It also means that the university’s promotional television spot aired repeatedly to a national audience. That is exposure that LSU could never have afforded to buy – especially in this era of budget cuts and diminished state support for public higher education.

John Thomas Commits!

Airline High School TE John Thomas just gave his pledge to Les Miles. Thomas is a big, athletic TE who visited over the course of last weekend. Looks to be a case of a player heading home, talking it over with the folks and pulling the trigger after a great visit. I don't know a ton about him at the moment, but he's a big (6'6, 240) prospect that looks like he could even grow into an offensive lineman.

Dillon Gordon and Ronnie Feist Commit!

LSU is now up to 5 commitments for the 2012 class, another fast start for Les Miles and company. Gordon is a big-bodied TE from John Curtis (I know, right?). And Feist is a super-athletic LB from West St. John. The two are best friends. Honestly, I don't know too much about either player, but I'll start doing some digging for future posts.

Kicker James Hairston Commits

Bit puzzled on this one. This comes just a day or so after the news that Dalton Botts officially switched to Miami. This was an expected move, as many thought he was a back-up option in case Brad Wing didn't get eligible. Many, including myself, thought Botts would go elsewhere freeing up a scholarship for a different position, but Miles and co. obviously felt getting a kicker was important. I don't know much about Hairston as a kicker, and this is by no means a shot on his abilities, but this is a puzzling offer/commitment to say the least.

OL Clay Spencer Will Not Return to LSU Football Team

Tigerbait.com is reporting that Clay Spencer is taking a medical hardship and will not be returning to the LSU football team. If you've followed my recent attrition posts you are aware that numbers are tight for the upcoming class. This frees up another scholarship for next season. I will have more on this as the story unfolds.
