Who would have thought tonight's game against Texas A&M would be huge before the season started? In a move I welcome, Magnum Rolle will start, unfortunately it comes at the expense of an injured Darnell Lazare. You think the Aggies are wanting a little revenge for last year's NCAA Tournament classic?

A&M's big man Joseph Jones may have summed it up best when he said, "The fact that we lost, that's the biggest [memory]," Jones said. "[We] lost on a last-second shot and it's been just digging down inside everybody, because we were that close to the Sweet 16."

Offensive Coordinator Jimbo Fisher's name is being tossed around for possible head coaching jobs. The lastest? To replace Chuck Amato at N.C. State. BCS job, check. Some football history, check. Recruiting in state against Butch Davis, ummm ...

JaMarcus Russell, Glen Dorsey and LaRon Landry were named first-team All-SEC by the AP. I'm not sure what Carl Dubois was thinking with his lead to his story, but it wasn't a good one.

All that's going on in South Bend is your generic LSU vs. Notre Dame story.

Weis knows from experience. The Jan. 3 Sugar Bowl matchup, ND's fourth in the New Orleans-based bowl, is the fourth game ND will have played against the teams that finished in the top five of this year's BCS standings in the past calendar year.

The Irish defense has gotten torched in all three of the previous such games -- against Ohio State, Michigan and USC -- and that potential exists again, with LSU junior quarterback JaMarcus Russell the top-rated passer (third nationally in passing efficiency) the Irish have seen this season.

Apparently they're still not over Sunday's BCS announcement up in Michigan.

Despite all his announcements saying he's staying in West Virginia, because you know it's only the best place ever, it appears Rich Rodriguez will at least meet with Alabama.

Courtesy of gumbo, etouffee, jambalaya, poboys, beignets and a host of other Louisiana staples, the state has once again been named the least healthy in the nation. I plan to celebrate with a beer, some gumbo and a mammoth fried shrimp poboy.
