Okay, so I know everybody only cares about football, basketball and baseball. But it's nice to try to give the other sports some love every once in a while. So, hopefully I can do that each Wednesday. Here goes:

Latavia Thomas was named the SEC Women's Freshman Runner of the Year yesterday. She won the women's 800m at the SEC Indoor Championships and led the Lady Tigers to a runner-up showing at the NCAA Championships last weekend.

Former Tiger Xavier Carter has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award for Breakthrough of the Year. The prestigous awards encompass the entire sporting world. Carter was nominated for running the second-fastest 200m in history and winning four NCAA Championships.

In gymnastics, LSU scored a season-high 197.125 last week to beat No. 17 Penn State. The team is ranked seventh in the nation and boasts the current SEC Gymnast of the Week, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney.

The LSU men's tennis team climbed two more spots in the latest ITA poll, moving up to No. 13. The Tigers beat Kentucky and Vanderbilt last week and are currently 3-1 in the SEC.
