  • Baseball America has a great story  about LSU's improbably 6-5 win over Rice on Tuesday. My favorite quote:

"I know Blake was looking for a fastball out over the plate, and as smart as he is, I've seen him go to the opposite field with power before," Mainieri said. "He put a beautiful swing on the ball and I thought it was going to leave the ballpark. When I saw it hit the wall, all I did was shift my eyes to Jared Mitchell, and all I could see was a blur going around the bases. I think if (third-base coach) Cliff (Godwin) had tried to hold him up, he'd have run through him like a defensive back for Alabama.
  • It's still early, but Ryan Perrilloux appears to off on the right foot at Jacksonville State.

There's no doubt who is in charge, the receivers said. Like a coach, Perrilloux has been seen running routes himself to illustrate what he expects a receiver to do.

"(Perrilloux) really is a good leader," Whiddon said. "If we mess up, we'll re-do the play right then and there. There is no waiting.

Of course, there are no casinos in Jacksonville, Ala., or much of anything else for that matter.

  • SouthernPigskin.com has its LSU preview. I've never heard of this website, but it's always worth your time to read about college football in June.

  • With this deal worked out, you can almost guarantee an SEC Television Network starting up in time for the 2009 college football season. Who's up for coming over to watch LSU vs. Ole Miss in women's soccer?
