The Search for a new OC continues. No word as of yet on if the Justin Fuente interview has taken place (there is a massive Junior Day recruiting event on campus this weekend, so it may wait until after the weekend). Also there are some rumors that Southern Miss OC/QB coach Blake Anderson has interviewed for the job.

Oddly, passing game coordinator Billy Gonzales has taken himself out of consideration for the post.

Crowton was gracious in his exit. For their part, the Terps seem cautiously optimistic. Oh, to be young and naive again (it'll all end in tears, I swear)

The NCAA is holding their annual convention in San Antonio and among other things there was discussion of requiring so-called "classroom risk" basketball students to take 6 hours of summer credits to be eligible for fall ball. President Emmert, in his opening address, hoped that the various loopholes exposed in the Auburn and Ohio State cases this year would be closed by rule changes enacted at the convention.

Doc Saturday has his top 10 games of the year, where LSU-UNC and LSU-UF make appearances.

Patterson HS RB Kenny Hilliard is among a few early enrollments starting classes this week, and ESPN has a story about how he turned around his academic future as a freshman to get on the path to college.

Speaking of players returning to campus, Elliot Porter, one of the subjects of that ESPN hit piece a few weeks back, has returned to LSU and will play on the team as a walk-on next season. Meanwhile, RB/CB Drayton Calhoun has transferred to Middle Tennessee, where he may see his sit-out year waived due to a family hardship appeal.

With the baseball season just over a month away from it's Feb 18th start, the battery staff began practice this weekend, with the rest of the team to join them on Tuesday. Of the 35-man roster, only 16 are returning from last year, including 2 of College Baseball Daily's top 100 players: #60 "The Chalmation Sensation" Matty Ott and #21 Mikie Mahtook. RBR has a great discussion about how the new BBCOR bat standard is going to affect the sport, including the prerequisite cheers at the demise of Gorilla Ball.

 

Ralph Pere', the former LSU OL and South Lafourche High coaching legend, passed away from lung cancer last week at the age of 68.
