LSU has a quick turnaround from the disappointing loss yesterday to Northwestern. Western Kentucky also lost their game, although it wasn't as competitive, to Tulsa. There is still plenty left to play for over the weekend, as Georgia Tech or VCU are the next possible match ups for Sunday's game.
Yesterday's loss isn't nearly as bad as it looks. Sure, the 1-2 record looks bad, but the way LSU played and competed with a slightly better team makes me optimistic we will see more good play today. Johnny O'Bryant had another fantastic game, scoring 21 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Andre Stringer had a respectable 15 point game, though neither he or Anthony Hickey could solve the 1-3-1 zone in the second half.
John Shurna scored a career high 37 points and was unstoppable. He had Storm Warren in foul trouble all game, then proceeded to get Eddie Ludwig in foul trouble, followed by Justin Hamilton in foul trouble. He was literally guarded by 3 different positions, and none of them could stop him. Drew Crawford also got hot in the 2nd half, scoring all 17 of his points then.
It looks like freshman Derrick Gordon is the Hilltoppers go to guy so far, after he had a big 25 point game against St. Joe's yesterday. Still though, he hasn't shot the ball well. 16 of the 25 came at the free throw line. He's only shooting 27% from the field.
I think LSU has enough to take the game today. I'd like to go off to Oxford in a good mood.
