Sacred Heart, from Fairfield, Conn., is one of those teams on a traditional sun belt tour to start their year, appearing with other northern teams at a mini-tourney in Palm Beach, followed by 4 games at SLU last weekend, and 3 at Miss St. this weekend. They're off to a 4-3 start, splitting the games with Southeastern. Both wins were close games and both losses were blowouts. Your main offensive threats are 2 and 3 hole hitters INF JJ Edwards and 1B Rob Griffith, who both lead their regulars with identical .464 BAs. The Pioneers are batting .309 as a team with 53Ks and no homers.
Sacred Heart is starting one of their 2 relievers with a save tonight while we'll be tossing Tyler Jones, who could still be competing for a weekend job. Don't expect to see anything fancy in relief, but Kevin Berry will pitch at one point just because it seems he pitches in every game. Hopefully we'll put this out of reach by the 3rd and do some mass subs to keep every one safe and rested for the weekend.
Despite flooding in the greater river parishes area this morning, the rain has cleared and we know the field drains well. It should be cool and cloudy with a stronger than usual breeze off the river. Radio only.
