It would be a mistake for an LSU blog such as ourselves to fail to mention that tonight is the biggest game of the Women's regular season, a trip to face our long time nemesis, the Lady Vols of Tennessee. Though starting of the year ranked, first year Coach Caldwell's squad has had some ups and downs, with wins at home over ranked Georgetown and South Carolina teams, but road losses at ranked Ohio St. and inexplicably at Tulane in OT. The 13-4 team is well positioned for the post season, but needs some big road wins to polish the resume. Not to mention an LSU win gives us the conference lead and a tie-breaker over Tennessee, who we will not see again until the conference tournament.
There is a bigger purpose tonight, however. As was widely publicized last summer, legendary coach Pat Summitt revealed that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. Along with flatly stating that it would not deter her from coaching any time soon, she's also used her fame to start a foundation to support awareness and research for the disease. With the full support of the SEC, this week both women's and men's basketball games will feature various fundraising efforts for the foundation, with tonight's game being one of it's key showcases.
The game tonight is at 6pm on CSS and would be live on Cox Sports if not for the Hornets game (a recurring situation that is really starting to piss me off). Instead, if you are in LA you can catch it on Cox 4 FuzzyVision and the ESPN3.com service
