Week 5 BlogPoll

Looking ahead to the next week of games...

The BlogPoll is out and somehow I didn’t get recognized as Straight Bangin’ for placing LSU 12th. I don’t get it either. Poll below, followed by the first totally awesome weekend of football. Which I will not enjoy because my mother is coming to town to visit the Li’l Poseur. No football for me save the LSU game.

Washington at #2 Oregon

The Huskies can’t quite crack the BlogPoll, so this game looks more impressive in AP land. While the transitive property is bogus, it will be interesting to see a straight line comparison between Oregon and LSU playing at home against the same team. Of course, LSU’s rating will be more closely ties to that pesky Florida game.

#3 Florida St at NC State

This is being propped up as a trap game, but I’m not sure I see it (though that’s what makes it a trap game!) State’s played two good teams and lost to both of them, and that’s calling Tennessee a good team. EJ Manuel has to do something great to stay in the Heisman race now that Geno Smith has gone all eight touchdowns on us.

#4 LSU at #11 Florida

Just misses being a top ten clash. One of the big games of the weekend, you may have noticed.

#5 Georgia at #7 South Carolina

It’s hard to understate just how big this game is. Honestly, I think it will decide the SEC East as I’m not the biggest believer in Florida. The winner, effectively, has a two game in the East race provided they can avoid a three way tie with Florida. Georgia’s already effectively destroyed the dreams of two upstarts to the crown, but now comes the real test. Really, I could not be more excited for a non-LSU game that I am for this… and I will likely miss it. Stupid family.

#8 West Virginia at #10 Texas

We have no idea how good Texas is. Absolutely none. WVU has perhaps the best offense in the nation, paired with a defense that slightly outperforms a practice cone. The Big 12 race is about to get real.

Miami at #9 Notre Dame

Christians vs. Convicts has lost a bit of his allure and almost all of the hatred, but this is a real chance for Miami to right their season. The Canes are currently defined by the pasting they took from Kansas St, but that only counts as one loss, and an OOC loss at that. How good is Notre Dame? Are they just a product of playing Big Ten teams?

#22 Nebraska at #12 Ohio St.

Biggest game of the season in the Big Ten? It might be. This is a conference that desperately needs someone other than the Buckeyes to be good.

#17 Oklahoma at Texas Tech

Is the right team ranked? Tech hasn’t exactly played Murderer’s Row, so they have a chance to prove all of their skeptics wrong. Or right. OU still hasn’t put forth an effort all year they’ll want to put on their season highlight video. A loss here pretty much ends their season.

#20 Northwestern at Penn St

The Nittany Lions have quietly salvaged their season and would likely be 4-1 if they had a competent kicker. Northwestern is the front runner for the Rose Bowl, so it would be nice if they could beat one of the ineligible teams.
